Sony launching Xperia ‘Made of Imagination’ campaign this week

Sony is launching a new ‘Made of Imagination’ campaign this week to promote its new Xperia series. Below is a sneak preview of a special commercial that has been created by Wes Anderson, director of The Fantastic Mr Fox. From the video below we know that the advert was based on what children believe makes Sony smartphones special, which looks to have resulted in the creation of a new robot figurine. The 60 second advert is due to go live on 24th March 2012, at which time we expect the URL www.sonymobile.com/imagination to become active. Check back later in the week for updates.

How to install a micro SIM card in Sony Xperia S

image

The Sony Xperia S uses the new smaller micro SIM cards.

To install/insert the SIM card and get full use of the smartphone, you need to insert the SIM like so:

1. Remove the back cover using your thumbs, press down on the back cover and slide it upwards.

2. Insert the SIM card into its slot (see bottom image) with the gold-coloured contacts facing downwards.

3.To replace the back cover, place the back cover over the back of the phone and fit it into the slots.  Slide the cover downwards (the opposite to removing it) until you hear a sound and feel the cover lock into place.

HDMI SmartDock announced for the Xperia P

SmartDock for Xperia PThe Sony SmartDock was announced at CES 2012 earlier this year. The multimedia docking station is very similar to that of last years LIveDock released for the 2011 Xperia series. The SmartDock features two USB ports like the LiveDock did; but in addition it also features a HDMI port.

The SmartDock for Xperia P can be connected to a TV via HDMI to watch movies, browse photos, play music etc. The SmartDock will charge your device as your viewing media to ensure maximum usage throughout the day. If your TV is HDMI-CEC compatible you will be able to control your phone using a remote control. The two USB ports will allow you to gain that full PC experience when connected up to a keyboard and mouse, great for home use.

With regard to a SmartDock being produced for the Xperia S – it’s bad news I’m afraid. Sony have explained that there is nothing in the pipeline, this is expected to be down to the fact that the USB & HDMI ports are sat at opposite ends of the device. The LiveDock will still be compatible with the Xperia S however you will not benefit from HDMI out.

Check out a couple of short videos below demonstrating a ‘hands on’ with the Xperia P working in sync with the Sony SmartDock.
