Xperia S Update Incoming

According to a forum post over on the official Sony support pages, owners of the company’s flagship Xperia S device won’t have long to wait until the latest version of Android is pushed to their phones.

The Sony representative stated that the rollout was to begin in late May/Early June, but was quick to stress that the update would not “happen overnight”, but would be done in phases.

This is great news for all Xperia S owners as it addresses one of the major gripes about this phone; that it was not packing the latest version of Google’s operating system.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S v Sony Xperia S

That was about 18+ months ago now and since then the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S came along, offering a faster processor, faster camera load times and better standby times.

Xperia S USB On-The-Go [Video]

The Sony Xperia S possesses 32 GB of internal storage but not having an expansion slot will be a big deal for a lot of potential users. This demonstration will hopefully change your thoughts on this; by showing you that you can store data externally and with the help of a BizLink Micro USB to USB converter you’ll come to see how easy it is to view external media content on your handset.

Sony doesn’t have its own file manager, but the Xperia S comes pre-loaded with Astro file manager. Once your Xperia S is connected to the Micro USB to USB converter you can either connect a USB stick or a MIcroSD card to USB adaptor. You will then need to browse the ‘usbdisk’ folder in Astro file manager to view your USB files.

It really is this simple – check out this demonstration video below from the guys at Xperiablog.net

GLONASS the future for all smartphones?

imageThe Samsung Galaxy Note was the first to use GLONASS technology, but now the Sony Xperia S is set to have GLONASS support too.

The Russian equivalent to the US GPS, GLONASS works in pretty much the same way, the difference being that to you as a smartphone user, you are now likely to get an even more accurate GPS reception, in fact as accurate as 2 metres.

It is explained fantastically in the following video from Qualcomm, the manufacturers of the processor in the new Xperia S from Sony.

Sony Xperia S–SmartTags

SmartTags are one such example.  Programmed for different functions, just scan you device over the tag using NFC and the settings on your phone will change.

The following promotional videos make it look seamlessly easy and powerful.  It is a bit like Motorola’s Smart Actions.  Smart Actions is more intelligent and potentially better in the long run but SmartTags could be more usable for individuals as you decide when the phone does what a bit more.
