HTC have this afternoon officially announced the release of the HD2, AKA the HTC Leo. The HD2 (Not the Touch HD2), is the successor to the highly popular HTC Touch HD and is set for a November release.
Following on from the success of the Touch HD, the HD2 will maintain the features that made its predecessor so successful, whilst bringing some great new additions to the market.
The stand out features of the HD2 are Windows Mobile 6.5 Operating System, a 1GHz processor, a massive 4.3” display and an incredibly thickness of just 11mm. The Touch HD was regarded by many as HTC’s most popular device last year, so they’ve taken some of its best features and built on them. The screen has been made half an inch bigger, the talktime/standby time improved significantly and the processor speed doubled. New features such as a G-Sensor, Digital Compass and Footprints have also been added, so there’s no doubt that the HD2 won’t disappoint.

Here’s the key specs that the HD2 will feature:
Windows Mobile 6.5
1GHz Processor
4.3-inch VGA display
GPS
WiFi
Bluetooth
5 Megapixel Camera
3.5mm Audio Jack

According to an article over at PC World, Windows Mobile 7 is all about the Social Networks and will be core to the mobile device.
The news comes through a job post on Microsoft’s Entertainment and Devices job site.
" ‘Social networks’ and ‘mobile phones’ are two rapidly evolving socio-cultural phenomena that deeply impact the way in which people interact with each other. How would you like to be at the confluence of these phenomena, not as an observer but as someone who is defining the course?
"The Windows Mobile 7 Communications group is building experiences on the phone that present your content — friends, pictures, messages, events — to you in immersive and engaging ways. Our vision is to bring social networks to life by integrating them into the core experience of the phone. For example, imagine seeing all the newsfeeds from all the networks you care about in a single hub on the phone. Or imagine the phone instantly telling you what your friend is doing and where he is when you get a call from him."
The job posting goes on to explain that Microsoft wants to build a "mobile social platform" that’ll encourage developers to create socially focused applications for the system. It states that the company has "just begun drawing the first lines" of the platform and hints at the lofty goals surrounding the Windows Mobile 7 release.
According to the job post "The vision of WM7 and especially the communications team is ambitious…We are not building yet another cool phone, but one that is truly personal and relevant. Yes, the competition is stiff, but it’s exceeded only by our desire to win. Come help us build this epic phone."
Looks like Windows Phone/Mobile 7 could be something special!
