A demonstration of the Sony Xperia S and the Sony NFC SmartTags, an innovative accessory that can speed up and automate everyday tasks with a simple swipe past the tag.
Sony’s SmartTags allow you to tell your phone to do something when you swipe it past the tag.
It is a pretty nice feature and is not limited to only Sony NFC enabled smartphones.
The following video shows a Sony Xperia SmartTag being used and working with an Android handset not manufactured by Sony, in this case a Google Nexus S, but it WILL work with the HTC One X.
By downloading the SmartTags Application from Google Play you can use the SmartTags with other NFC enabled smartphones.
The more powerful a smartphone the more power it needs. Whilst Sony have optimised battery usage as best as possible, it is sometimes down to the user to make changes to ensure you get the best battery life possible from your device, especially if you are away from power for a period of time. Here are some suggestions of what you could do.
To make life easier you could use a SmartTag to automate the process for you.
If you have an NFC enabled phone, you can head to Android Market and download Xperia SmartTags app for your phone in preparation for use with the Sony Xperia SmartTags that will be available in early March.
SmartTags can be programmed to tell your phone to complete a series of actions when swiped with an NFC enabled phone.
Check out the video below to better understand the concept:
Designed for the Xperia S, but compatible with other phones with NFC you can make your life a little easier in places, automating simple tasks.

The first stock of the Sony Xperia S will be arriving in early March in the UK and here at Clove we will be providing both the Black and White units.
We have today finalised the price of the Xperia at £358+VAT (if applicable).
Included in this price, you will get a further £30 worth of FREE accessories.

The Sony Xperia S will come pre-loaded with LiveWare Manager, a Sony application that allows you to configure which actions are triggered when specified accessories are connected to the handset. It is LiveWare manager that will enable the configuration of the Sony NFC SmartTags, which are compatible with the Xperia S (and other NFC handsets).
LiveWare manager is not a new application, it has come pre-loaded on the Xperia range for a while and is available to download from the Android market here. At the moment it can be configured to launch actions when headphones, charger or headset are connected. In the screenshots below, you can see an example when connecting a headset. The app will be updated when the Xperia S launches to enable NFC configuration. The Xperia S is due to be here the week commencing March 5th.
Sony are going all out with the Xpeira S and demonstrating how it can change your lifestyle and make the smaller things in life that little bit quicker and easier.
SmartTags are one such example. Programmed for different functions, just scan you device over the tag using NFC and the settings on your phone will change.
The following promotional videos make it look seamlessly easy and powerful. It is a bit like Motorola’s Smart Actions. Smart Actions is more intelligent and potentially better in the long run but SmartTags could be more usable for individuals as you decide when the phone does what a bit more.
