    Samsung i8000 beats the competition

    Saturday, November 14, 2009

    57678_GT-I8000_ADImage_Large

The Samsung Omnia I8000 recently won the group test in T3 magazine’s WINMO wonders, where it looked at a number of Windows Mobile touch screen devices, including the HTC Touch 2, the LG GM750, Sony Ericsson Xperia X and Toshiba TG01.

The T3 editors loved the AMOLED screen which they found to be the right size, with a bright vivid display, They found is responsive with the virtual Qwerty keyboard easy to use. The 5 mega pixel camera with LED flash gave great results and Samsung’s customisation of the interface has made it simple to use.

I am sure Samsung’s PR team will make use of this great review of their flagship Win 6.5 device.

Perhaps a head to head with the HTC HD2 would be a stiffer test, but at £335 plus VAT the Omnia i8000 offers exceptional value and would be a good choice of a high end touch screen Smartphone.

    Samsung Omnia II Video

    Sunday, July 19, 2009

Video reviews and unboxings are much more common now for new products.

The Samsung Omnia II is no exception.  The guys over at hdblog.it have completed a long review of the unit.

This is not a final production model so the content and software could change, particularly the OS.  In the video they demonstrate Windows Mobile 6.1, the final version will have Windows 6.5.

    Samsung Omnia II

    Friday, July 17, 2009

Samsung recently launched the Omnia II.  A stunning machine, the Omnia II is the successor to the original Omnia and the big brother to the recently released Jet.

Packing a feature set that gives even the HTC Touch Diamond2 a run for its money this device will have many peoples attentions when it becomes available later this quarter.

One thing that has become apparent is that manufacturers are making a much more conscious effort to provide you with the information that you want sooner.

Such avenues for such includes greater availability of information, not to mention more interactive demos and publications.

One such example is product emulator, which is pretty good, and gives you are much better understanding/experience of the device prior to purchase.

You can check it out at Samsungs Omnia websitehttp://omnia.samsungmobile.com/omnia2/

Samsung Omnia NEW Range – Hands On

    Wednesday, July 8, 2009

Recently Samsung unveiled a whole raft of new Omnia devices.

The Omnia range comprises of a number of devices which appeal to various users, in different industry’s with different requirements.

They all boasted different features, the primary being a AMOLED display.

Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode (AMOLED) displays draw less power because they do not have a backlight, just a sheet of LED’s which draw less power and thus provide a better battery life in addition to the rich colour and natural looking images.

We were lucky enough to have a short hands on time with some of the soon to be released units.

Starting with the bad, we have to say that other than the Jet, which is available NOW, the interfaces on the others were a little buggy.

However when they functioned they did function very well.  The TouchWiz interface has been improved, to be more interesting graphically whilst being more responsive. The final versions on the other devices will of course be tweaked by the time

The units all felt very solid and are made from good quality materials, in comparison to some of the competing units which can feel plasticy.

The Omnia Pro has a 4 line keyboard.  This is significantly better than the Nokia N97’s 3 line, and has by far, better ergonomics.  It did not quite compete with the Pro2 however, as it does not have the additional 5th line with numeric’s. Never the less when in the hand, the position in which the device sat, and the feel and physical feedback from the keys were positive and was really pleasing.

The screen is by far the greatest asset on these devices.  It sounds like a sales pitch to say it is sensational, but our reaction was ‘wow’.  The images appear really crisp, with great levels of colour and contrast.

The release dates for the full range of Omnia’s has not been set but we should see the majority begin shipping in Q3.

    Samsung B7610 Omnia Pro

    Tuesday, June 16, 2009

In addition to the 4 other devices launched yesterday, Samsung have also announced the B7610.

The B7610 is Samsungs answer to the HTC Touch Pro2, Acer M900, and Nokia’s N97.

Suitable for a vast range of users, but aimed mainly at the professional user, the B7610 Omnia Pro has a specification that is simply sensational.

    • 3.5” WVGA AMOLED Touch Screen
    • 5 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash
    • HSDPA/HSUPA
    • WiFi
    • GPS
    • FM Radio
    • MicroSD Slot (Support 32GB)
    • 2GB on board memory
    • Windows Mobile 6.1 with an upgrade path to 6.5

We look forward to seeing this device, it could compete well with the models available from HTC, Acer and Nokia, providing they release it in good time.

No word on price and availability at present!
