Samsung Galaxy S III (GT-I9200)??

Samsung has confirmed that it is already working on the Samsung Galaxy S III.  Yes the Galaxy S II has only just arrived, but Samsung are looking to the future already.

Don’t get too excited, or annoyed at the fact you have only just bought the Galaxy S II – it won’t be until 2012 until we potentially see the Galaxy III.

J.K.Shin, the president of Samsung’s mobile communications division told the Dow Jones newswire, “Samsung may launch a third version of its Galaxy S smartphone in the first half of next year after launching a second-generation version called Galaxy S II last month.”

Honestly this does not comes as a surprise, seeing as the Galaxy is popular range of devices, Samsung always need to be looking to the next thing, but probably what does come as a surprise is the honesty so far in advance.

Samsung Galaxy S II– shipping May 1st with 1.2GHz processor

A few rumours seem to have surfaced on the web over the last 24 hours about the Samsung Galaxy S II processor and availability dates.

Some suggest a launch date April and others suggest June or later whilst other news says the Galaxy S II will have a 1.2GHz processor.

First things first, the unit will ship with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor

As for availability, the following are 2 tweets from Samsung themselves (head office).

As we can see they mention and April launch, but this is dependant upon the local timetable.

Due to all this confusion we spoke to Samsung UK who have confirmed the following – UK stock is to be available for sale on 1st May and not before.

This confirms that UK stockists, including ourselves will not have stock before the 1st May.  We will not be selling them in April, it will be 1st May – but not June as some rumours suggest.

There is also question over exactly which model of processor and screen will come with the device.  To date we understand this to be the Exynos chip and a Super AMOLED Plus screen.  We will however confirm the final specification before shipping.

We hope you find this news satisfying.

UPDATE: For those observant followers – May 1st is a Sunday and May 2nd is a bank holiday so first stock will actually dispatch on the 3rd!  However the stock will be ready for this.  Samsung UK have set the  launch date as the 1st May.

Sony Ericsson Arc listed on Clove website–Register your interest now!

Following the announcement of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc at CES 2011, the new Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) smartphone is now listed on the Clove website.

At the moment we are still waiting for a price and release date to be confirmed, although most the specs have been released by Sony. Hopefully we’ll see a release within Q1 of 2011.

The Arc is comparable to a couple of handsets currently on the market in terms of spec, such as the HTC Desire HD and Samsung Galaxy S. However, the Google Nexus S is the only handset currently available with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, although there could be an update for the Desire HD available by the time the Arc launches.

There are a few nice features that Sony has included, namely a ‘Reality’ shatterproof display, the Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine and Sony’s Exmor R photo enhancement technology. For a full list of the spec, with videos and images, click here.

Google Maps Android App Updated

image

There is now an update available for the Google Maps application for Android, adding to its already impressive feature set even further. Google Maps 5 enables 3D vector maps (for certain cities), which currently includes only Birmingham in the UK and Dublin in the Republic of Ireland.

A very handy improvement is compass mode, which automatically orientates to show the direction that you are facing. The third feature to be added is the offline caching of maps, designed to improve speed and maintain use of the app if GPS or 3G connections are unavailable.

Google Maps 5.0 is available for any Android device running 1.6 or higher. However, the 3D and offline maps require Android 2.0 and above and one of the latest Android devices on the market, such as the Samsung Galaxy S.

The video below from the Google blog shows off the new Google Maps 5 Android App:

Google Voice Actions – Another Superb Freebie from Google

Google has just announced Google Voice Actions, an add-on for Google Search by Voice for Android FroYo 2.2. This adds yet another great piece of technology to the already stunning Android portfolio. So what is Google Voice Actions? Well the video below gives a run through of its features.

Basically, Voice Actions lets you give instructions to your device by voice. It does require Android 2.2 FroYo (or higher) to work. With Google Voice Actions, you will be able to tell your device to:

    • Send text messages
    • Listen to music
    • Get directions
    • Call businesses
    • Call contacts
    • Send email
    • View a map
    • Go to websites
    • Write a note
    • Search Google

Currently the HTC Desire (and Nexus One) are the only devices available with Android 2.2 FroYo in the UK. However, updates are on the way for the Samsung Galaxy S, HTC Legend and other devices.
