HTC devices getting Ice Cream Sandwich this summer

HTC to update back catalogue of devices to ICS within Q3

HTC has published an approximate schedule as to when its devices will be updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich; most are due between June and July. Some handsets such as the Sensation/XE have already had their updates start rolling out.

Currently the HTC One series handsets are the only ones that run 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, although the HTC Desire C is due to join them in just over a week.

HTC Car Upgrade Kit (HTC Sensation) – Customer Review

Review compliments of Graham from Suffolk.

Postman delivered this car kit about a  month ago as I started using my Sensation as a satnav rather than my old Tom-tom. I decided to get this one as it’s made specifically for my device. It stays firmly attached whilst driving and going over bumps and a provided suction cup that attaches to the power cable is a nice touch for cable management on the windscreen or dash.

The main suction pad/connection to the windscreen takes a little getting use to secure it but I just tend to leave it attached so I can easily just place my device in. Once its on its easy to adjust to the right position. It leaves space for the 3.5mm audio jack, which I use a lot to listen to music & the voice guidance though my car stereo.

It’s a bit pricy (lots of cheap mounts available) but it definitely doesn’t feel cheap and I would purchase again.

HTC confirms which handsets will get ICS

Unfortunately no time frame has been specified yet, although the Sensation and Sensation XE updates have already started rolling out in some regions. Included below is the full list of devices that will be updated, those highlighted in bold are UK handsets.

What happens when you polish the HTC Sensation?

I’ve just come across this image of a polished HTC Sensation and I’ve got to say it looks pretty special. The user has polished the Sensation to give it a shiny chrome-like finish. Hang on before you go and get the Mr.Sheen out though – it’s not as simple as just taking a cloth and spray to your smartphone. The owner first disassembled it, spent some time sanding it down and then buffed with polish. It’s quite a lot of work (especially if you’re not experienced in this kind of thing) but it does give you a rather nice looking handset that could easily pass as a special edition. There’s a detailed guide here if you fancy giving it a go.

HTC Sensation and Sensation XE ICS Update Coming Soon?

image

A couple of posts this morning have uncovered that the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the HTC Sensation and HTC Sensation XE could be here very soon indeed. A Eurodroid post points out that a Dutch Press release has announced that an HTC Sensation with Android 4.0 (ICS) on board will be ready to launch by March 1st. This means that the Ice Cream Sandwich update should be ready ‘any day now’ for the Sensations that are already out in the wild.

Another post over at Android Community shows a tweet from HTC saying that ‘ICS will be coming to the Sensation XE early this year’, so hopefully it won’t be too long before we see the update rolled out to both devices.

ZTE Skate v HTC Sensation v Samsung Galaxy S II

The ZTE Skate could easily be considered inferior to the HTC Sensation and Samsung Galaxy S II, but to do so would be unfair.

We know that some of the features are not as high end as it’s competitors and that the processor may not be as fast, but lets look at how they stack up, especially when there is a £170 difference between it and its nearest rival, the Sensation.
