Acer Liquid Z110 Duo–Now Available

Cost effective dual SIM Android smartphone.

untitled

Some people have to carry 2 phones. 1 for personal calls another for business or maybe one for use in the UK and another for use abroad.

It would be so much easier to carry just one phone.

With the Acer Liquid Z110 you can.

The Z110 is a dual SIM Android smartphone meaning you can have 2 SIM cards in one phone at one time.

Now the phone will not win any awards for high end specs, with a 1GHz processor, 3 megapixel camera and Android 2.3; but functionality and price is what the Acer is all about.  For £110 you can get yourself a Z110 dual SIM smartphone.

New Samsung WP7 handset to be based on SGS2?

It looks like Samsung may be planning to apply the success it has experienced with its Galaxy S Android range to a new Windows Phone 7 handset. Samsung’s been doing a lot of work over the last year on its Android portfolio, but not so much on Windows Phone 7. The Omnia 7 was an OK handset, but it doesn’t come close to the blockbuster handset that is the Samsung Galaxy S II.

The handset seen in the images below was recently shown off by Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President Steve Guggenheimer. Not much is given away as the photos have been taken at a distance, but GSMArena speculates that it could be the rumoured Samsung i937, based on the design of the Galaxy S II.

We can expect a range of new Windows Phone 7 devices to be available towards the end of the year with HTC, LG, Acer, ZTE and Fujitsu all tipped to have handsets in the making.

Quad-band Acer ICONIA Tab A501 3G Now Available

The ICONIA Tab is another high end addition to the Android Tablet market from computing powerhouse Acer. Acer have made serious headway into the consumer netbook and laptop market in recent years, gaining a reputation for reasonably priced, quality built machines.

The ICONIA Tab A501 is no exception to this and offers a solid Honeycomb experience, powered by an nVidia Tegra2 processor, 1GB RAM and 32GB of flash storage wrapped in a robust metallic chassis with a slick multi-touch 1280×800 screen. The 3G module also supports quad band 850/900/1900/2100 frequencies so most (sorry T-Mobile USA users) of our friends across the pond and worldwide can enjoy a high speed data connection too.

Acer ICONIA Tab is available from Clove in WiFi only A500 and 3G A501 versions for £380 and £445 ex VAT respectively

Acer predicts Android as the next big thing for tablets

Acer chairman JT Wang, in a Chinese language interview commented how he believed that the tablet market, which is dominated almost 100% by the iPad will drop for Apple to just 20-30% with the emergence of Android tablets.  A very clear intimation then that Acer will be working hard on Android tablets.

Mr Wang favours the open platform and believes consumers will too as states how open platforms have always one in the past…

We look forward to seeing what comes to market from Acer.

Acer neoTouch P300

acer_neotouch_p300

Thanks to Vince @ Tracyandmatt for this review of the Acer neoTouch P300.

Before even turning on the phone, Acer has managed to give a good impression. The box design is very impressive with its top compartment swivelling out from a magnet to reveal the manuals and accessories. The attention to detail that the packaging has received is quite a pleasing thing to see, maybe even be on par with HTC. Other than the phone, the box contains a slim and lightweight battery, micro USB cable, headphones, charger, and manuals, all cleverly hidden below the swivel top section of the box.

The phone itself is not as unorthodox, with its clean, simple, businesslike lines. The design by no means stands out but it looks smart and understated, and it would probably go well with your suit and briefcase. It feels pretty solid in the hand too, weighing in at 130g. It’s not particularly thin either, thanks to its slide out qwerty keyboard, but at a touch over 15mm thick, it’s a comfortable phone to hold. The entire casing is plastic which feels pretty solid with no noticeable creaking anywhere. The front is a fingerprint attracting glossy plastic but at least the back cover is matte, which should cut down the time you spend constantly keeping it clean.

The unit I received included a second battery and a nice Acer branded carbon fibre-effect slip case, but the manual unfortunately doesn’t list these in the box contents, so they might not be included with retail units.

New Acer Android: beTouch E120 & beTouch E130

beTouch-E130

Acer have just announced two new Android devices, the beTouch E120 and beTouch E130. In particular the E130 looks like a nice handset and it will be the first device to have a BlackBerry-style design while running the Android Operating System.

Unfortunately it is believed both devices will run Android 1.6 Doughnut, which is likely to pose a disadvantage considering most of the competition is now running 2.1 or 2.2.

E120_white_10However, both devices should have a fairly low price-point and the form factor of the E130 is likely to attract a few customers. Both devices will offer 3G+, high speed browsing and download (HSDPA), WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS pre-installed, as well as a basic 3.2 megapixel digital camera. Another selling point is the 1500 mAh battery that both devices will include, which should hold up pretty well considering the screens are on the smaller side compared to the typical Android device.

The beTouch E120 is due for release mid-July, available in black or white. The beTouch E130 is due for release in August, also in Black or White.

Full Specifications and the Acer Press Releases are available after the break.

Acer beTouch E130: the Android Blackberry

Courtesy of ARMdevices, this video of the Acer beTouch E130 has emerged. It resembles a Blackberry-style design but with the Android operating system. At the moment specifications are scarce, but these are the details floating about so far:

It has a 2.6″ TFT LCD screen, a 3.2 MP camera.
OS: Android 1.6
Processor: ST Ericsson PNX 6715, 416 MHz

After Acer’s success with the liquid, they could be on to a winner considering the popularity of the Blackberry form factor, although the Android 1.6 OS could be enough to put people off, so hopefully an update will be possible.
