Acer F1 – Coming Soon

Thursday, September 17, 2009

If I said F1 to you, the first thing you probably think of is Formula One, and you wouldn’t be wrong for thinking that.

If I asked you what Formula One represented to you, it is likely that you would say something along the lines of one of the most expensive and flashy sports in the world.

If I asked about Acer and F1, the ardent Formula One fans would know that Acer support the Ferrari Formula One team.

Well a little off topic, what I am attempting to introduce is the Acer F1, a new smartphone from Acer.

However, the F1 is a smartphone like no other.

It does loosely relate to Formula One (if you use your imagination a little) because it has a sleek and clean design a bit like an F1 car, a super fast processor to offer the best performance as well as a range of other features that make the F1 that standout device from the new Windows Phone range.

Due to begin shipping from the 6th October, the Acer F1 is the most superior Windows Mobile 6.5 (Windows Phone) device that will be available upon launch.

The competitor to the HTC Touch HD, the Acer F1 will have many advantages as of the 6th October, primarily the Windows Phone 6.5 operating system and 1Ghz processor (double that of the HTC Touch HD).

Now you will be excused for thinking the F1 will have a price tag that is higher than most smartphones, but that is not the case.  Yes it is not the cheapest, but at just £295 + VAT it is by no means the most expensive.

20 million handsets a year?!

Thursday, June 18, 2009

20 million handsets annually.  This is the figure that Acer believe they can achieve in 2012-2014.

President of Acer’s Smart Handheld Business Group, Aymar de Lencquessaing stated that in 2010, Acer expect to ship 2-2.5 million own branded handsets and in 2012-2014 shipments will increase to the 20 million thanks to the 15% smartphone growth expected in the next 5 years.

This is a very confident standpoint for a company beginning to make a name for themselves in the smartphone world. It would appear that Acer intend to use their ties with the network providers, who currently use and provide the computing components to assist with this.

If anyone had any doubts on Acers commitment to this market, think again.

We will continue to bring more information on Acer and their smartphone series as we have it.  2009 should still see another 6 handsets this year!

Acer poised to take over ASUS in smartphone market

    Friday, June 12, 2009

With nine handsets on course for release in 2009 compared to ASUS’s three it is predicted that Acer will outsell ASUS this yearAcer who acquired E-TEN have already brought 4 models to market here in the UK with further models, including an Android handset due before the year is out.

ASUS who have been plagued by problems and have ailed to be much competition for HTC, to whom they could have created fierce rivalry had everything gone to plan.

Acer have a strong reputation for computing products, but they have yet to prove themselves in the smartphone market, but their global reputation and product quality should assist them in exceeding ASUS in product offering and supply.

Acer DX650 – Listed on Acer support site

    Sunday, June 7, 2009

Some time ago there was discussion over leaked shots of the Acer DX650, a double sided phone, which had a touch screen on one side and a numeric keypad on the other.  Nothing to date has been officially confirmed by Acer, but I have come across this on Acer’s official support section (See above image).

The support site, has the DX650 listed as a product, with various ROM versions.
