Acer neoTouch S200 – £100 Price Drop

Monday, August 2, 2010

The Acer neoTouch S200 is Acer’s flagship Windows Mobile smartphone.  With a fantastic specification it has always been a real competitor to the HTC HD2, HTC’s flagship Windows Mobile device.

Unfortunately the neoTouch has thanks to the HTC brand and very strong marketing campaign been somewhat over-shadowed.
The product is just as good and has always been the more cost effective solution but with Acer still being a relatively unknown brand in smartphones (one of the biggest in netbooks and PC’s) the confidence has not always been there in the product.  Whilst the neoTouch isn’t perfect (no smartphone is) we believe it desrves a little more attention.

A little bit like the quiet child in a class who then turns out to be the most successful, the Acer neoTouch S200 has been overlooked by the more talked about and known devices.  However it is now time for the Acer to come out it’s shell and prove a point.

How you may ask?  Well the specification is fixed so price is the only adjustable attribute.

To that tune, we have teamed up with Acer to bring you the Acer neoTouch S200 at a price that you would be silly not to consider.  Whether it is for you,  friend, a colleague or as a device to play around with for some development work the neoTouch is now available at £100 less than it was just a few days ago. £210 + VAT is the new price, that is under £250 inclusive of VAT.

To put this in persective the HTC HD2 is currently £188 more expensive!!  If your a business and equipping some of your team with smartphones, and were previously considering the HD2 the savings are considerable.

If your the IT guy at your company and you can go back to your director and tell them that by going for the Acer instead of the HTC you can save £1800 and they both do the same job, then it would be fair to say you will be in their good books and who knows, maybe a bonus for the huge cost saving?!

This is not to say the HTC HD2 isn’t worth the money – it has a lot to offer to certain users which may make it the better solution, but if your not sure, do not rule the neoTouch out until you have read all about it.

So what do you get for less than £250??

  • Qualcomm 8250 1GHz processor
  • Windows Mobile 6.5 with Internet Explorer 6
  • 3.8” WVGA Touchscreen Display
  • Quad-band GSM / Tri-band HSPA
  • 512MB ROM / 256MB RAM
  • 5 Megapixel Autofocus with LED flash
  • microSD slot (support up to 32GB)
  • WiFi 802.11 b/g & Bluetooth 2.1
  • Motion Accelerometer
  • 3.5mm audio jack
  • 2 Year warranty

How can you argue with that?

Acer neoTouch S200 – Review

Tuesday, October 20, 2009

Yesterday we posted a link to the review of the Acer neoTouch S200, completed by Brandon Miniman.

We can today bring you a review completed by Shaun from http://www.pda247.com

Highlights- Qualcomm 8250 1GHz processor, Windows Mobile 6.5 with Internet Explorer 6, 3.8” WVGA Touchscreen Display, Quad-band GSM / Tri-band HSPA, 512MB ROM / 256MB RAM, 5 Megapixel Autofocus with LED flash, microSD slot (supports up to 32GB), WiFi 802.11 b/g & Bluetooth 2.1, Motion Accelerometer, 3.5mm audio jack, 2 Year warranty.

The highlights mentioned above come from Cloves site and they certainly look good. However, there is no mention of the 1Ghz processor which is powering the neoTouch and which I suspect is behind the performance I have experienced so far. Yes, that is a GHz, a real-life GHz! Only a decade ago I spent over £1500 on a 75MHz PC and now I can have a GHz in a smartphone for under £350. Throw in 256MB of RAM and 512MB of ROM and this is, from specs alone, one of the most powerful smartphones ever made.

The contents are good for a device at this price point and the inclusion of a screen protector is always welcome, whether it is a good one of not. I have not tested this one because it is a review unit, but it appears to be quite thick which bodes well. The box is a quirky design and the bottom half spins round for easier access to the contents- it is just a gimmick, but one which has a practical use. The stylus is the thin metal telescopic type which is just about long enough to hold comfortably, but with the screen as big as it is you are unlikely to be using it much.

Hardware and Design
The neoTouch is an unusual design to say the least, and could best be described as a slab. It is big dimensionally, but very slim and so …… READ MORE HERE

Acer C1/E1/L1

Friday, September 25, 2009

In case you missed it, we mentioned about a week ago that the Acer F1 would soon be landing.  October 6th is the first date on which we should be able to begin shipping that unit, which gives the HTC Touch HD a run for its money.

Also shipping on this date is the Acer C1, E1 and L1.

Three different machines with different specifications, these Windows Mobile 6.5 devices may be more suitable for you than the previously mentioned F1.

Acer E1

The race is on for the best multimedia smartphone

Friday, September 18, 2009

Several years ago multimedia on the phone was not such a big thing.  Most smartphone users were on the Symbian or Windows Mobile platform and were more interested in light web browsing, keeping themselves organised and connecting to their all important email.

In today’s smartphone world, as more and more users adopt such, there is a growing requirement for features that the user actually wants, so that the device fits more into their daily lifestyle.

There are many operating systems but without doubt Windows Mobile is the strongest and has the greatest flexibility and integration options.

Now depending on who you are, will depend on what you want but most require improved camera’s, display’s and connectivity options.

Connectivity is part and parcel of any serious smartphone available today.  WiFi 802.11g and HSDPA has become the standard, even if the UK is still lagging behind in many areas in terms of HSDPA connectivity and speeds.

It is unlikely that a smartphone going to have a camera that will beat a standard camera, but they can come close. The new Sony Ericsson Satio and Samsung Pixon 12MP are good examples.

Unlikely that any device will have a HD display but they are improving.  Many have VGA displays now and Samsung have pushed the AMOLED display, which are exceptional.

You would like to view some video footage, capture a photo all on a device that can keep you connected.

So which multimedia smartphone should you choose?

Want to buy now? HTC Touch HD – A cracking device with a 3.8” VGA display, HSDPA, WiFi, 3.5mm audio jack, 5 megapixel camera and fast processor.

Able to wait a couple of weeks? Acer F1 – The best Windows Mobile 6.5 device set to arrive upon launch date. a 3.8” VGA display, a 1GHz processor, WiFi, 3,5mm audio jack, 5 megapixel camera(with autofocus and LED flash) and HSPA connectivity.
