Competition 9–Using your mobile devices for DIY & construction #clove20

We are going to leave the identity of this competition prize a secret until we announce the winner, but today we want to know if and how you have used your smartphone or mobile devices as part of any DIY or construction project.

For example have you used your phone as a spirit level or to calculate how long a length of cable you need to cut?

The following is one example (from a previous blog post comment) of how long time customer Mike Paterson used his tech in this way.

Create a Video Message ~ with a bit of a difference!

I will first take you on a story……
A few months back I was in our garage which is detached a good 30 feet from our house.

At the time I was working in the attic space above the garage and found a need to contact my wife to first ask a question then pick up some tools I needed. Unfortunately at the time she was out of earshot sat watching TV in the main lounge of the house and a telephone call to her would not be suffice to explain what I needed to ask nor what tools to pick up for me.
The trouble was I was in an awkward spot and if I came out of the attic and descended into the garage followed by a walk around the garden, kick off shoes etc. etc. then make my way to where my wife was sat and then go and pick up my tools from a different place outside the house it would be time consuming but worse I did not really want to leave the attic space as it was unsafe to leave the electrics I was working on.

After a brief minute I hit upon an idea….. I picked up my Samsung Galaxy SIII, put it into video mode and made a short video explaining both by voice and video exactly what I wanted my wife to do for me.
After creating and saving the video I then tapped at the top of the video screen the icon of a TV. This sent the video immediately to the TV my wife was watching.

In other words the program she was watching was then automatically interrupted by my face and video being shown on the TV.

The look on my wife’s face when she came out to me a few minutes later with the appropriate tools in hand was priceless. :)

We think you will agree that this is a great method. Mike, we shall enter you into the competition.

How to enter:

Simply let us know how you have used your phone or mobile devices in DIY or construction projects. Comment below or share it on social networking sites. The competition is open until 12PM (GMT) on Thursday 29th November.

Do not forget that on Friday at 5PM we will be closing our grand prize draw. CLICK HERE to be in with a chance of winning.

Competition 7–Motorola RAZR winner #clove20

For competition 7 of our #clove20 giveaway, we’ve asked what you would be willing to do to win a Motorola RAZR. We’ve had some great ideas sent in, including:

  • Eating two, very well portioned roast dinners
  • Creating a Clove video advert
  • Being nice to the mother in-law for a whole month
  • Destroy an old handset with a hammer/fire/by burying it in the back yard
  • Become a Justin Bieber advocate
  • Go for a swim in the sea on boxing day
  • Switch from Android to iOS for a month
  • Switch from Windows Phone to Android
  • Dress up as a Clove hand mascot and spread the word
  • Hand out Clove flyers to the neighbours
  • Hike to Clove HQ from Scotland
  • Shave a Movember tash off
  • Carry out some real world spamming using NFC and geocaching
  • Lick the husbands feet

However, the biggest commitment out of all of these (and realistically completing it) is without doubt getting a tattoo of the Clove logo. We had a couple of people enter this idea, but we’re going to award the prize to @iLewisOfTheDead as he was the first to enter it, who will be given the chance to win the RAZR and will also receive an Android figurine.

As runners-up we’ve selected the following, who will receive an Android figurine and will be given the chance for the main prize should the winner not go through with it:

  • Hand deliver a box of donuts to the Clove office
  • Draw the Clove logo on A4 paper and eat it
  • Cover Maroon 5’s “This love” with Motorola RAZR lyrics
  • Create a ‘Clovemobile’ using car vinyl and drive it until the end of the year

Competition 7: What would you do to win a Motorola RAZR? #clove20

We’ve had some great fun with the Clove competition so far and with a few different formats for entry.

We had a great response when we asked you to contribute to the last few competitions creatively, so today we would like to take it a step further and put the outcome even further into your hands.

Today we’ve got a Motorola RAZR to giveaway. We want you to tell us what you would be willing to do to win it.

Comment on this post or tell us on social media. We’ll pick what we believe to be the best idea in 24 hours time and ask the ‘winner’ to carry out that task. If you are selected, you must submit proof of completion, so if you say you’ll run around Waterloo Station screaming “clove 20′”, you’ll need to go through with it (and get somebody to film you as proof) to win.

Your ideas must of course comply with the laws of the land and the usual guidelines apply, so nothing too outrageous or explicit please!

Be sure to tell us if you’re particularly fond of an idea that somebody else submits – we’ll be sharing them on social so that everyone can see what else they’re up against.

The competition is open for entry until 1PM (GMT) on 27/11/12.  Get creative!

Weekend Competitions (5 & 6) –Send us a photo to win #clove20

Weekend + Cuppa + Photo = Prizes

To give the prize competition a bit of variety over the weekend, we’d like you to send us a photo of your favourite mug. Either share it with the #clove20 tag included on Twitter or Google+, or post a link to the photo in the comments on this blog post or on the Facebook post.

We’ll announce the winners for Competitions 5 and 6 along with the winners of Competition 4 on Monday. We gave away a Mototola RAZR i to kick the competition off and there are still several handsets up for grabs before the competition closes next Friday, as well as some fantastic runner-up prizes.

Be sure to checkout www.clove.co.uk/20 for a list of winners and prizes that have been given away so far, or click here to see all the 20th anniversary content we’ve posted.

Thanks to all those that have participated so far and good luck!

Psion Series 5 Special Edition Classic Unboxing #clove20

We might be harking back to times past at the moment, but we have to pay tribute to the products which made Clove the specialists we are to day and many of those were Psion products.

If we had to hold the trophy to one particular product, it has to be the Psion Series 5.

Outside of the Psion HQ we doubt there is a bigger collection of Psion products than that found in the possession of Clove Technology’s Managing Director, Chris Love.

As a tribute to the Psion and to celebrate 20 years, Chris delved into his collection and is behind the camera (probably for the 1st and last time) to unbox the revolutionary Psion Series 5 Special Edition. You can see his full unboxing below.

For any fans out there that are interested in having a Psion Series 5, we’ll have another blog post going up shortly that’ll give you the chance to get your hands on one.
