Why the Pocophone F1 Offers the Best Value for Money
If you haven’t heard of Pocophone then you’re probably not alone. Pocophone are an emerging brand from Chinese tech-giants Xiaomi, going into battle with the goal of providing high-quality smartphones at budget prices.
With their first device; the Pocophone F1, the raw specifications speak for themselves. The new “master of speed” is one the best value for money options currently on the market at under £300 ex-VAT, and here’s why.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 845
It’s headlining feature; the Pocophone F1 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845, offering the device flagship-level speed and performance.
The top-range processor offers peak download speeds of up to 1.2Gbps, as well as clock speeds of 2.8Ghz. Indeed, the Pocophone is currently the cheapest device on the market to offer such an impressive processor, and that’s not looking likely to change any time soon.
Other devices powered by the Snapdragon 845 include the Samsung S9 Plus (£720 ex-VAT), Sony Xperia XZ2 (£630 ex-VAT), OnePlus 6 (£465.83 ex-VAT) and the Galaxy Note 9 (£725 ex-VAT).
Impressive specs don’t end with the processor, as the device offers a very respectable dual camera setup on the rear.
A main 12MP sensor with 1.4um pixels comes with EIS stabilisation and dual-pixel PDAF. This has been partnered with a 5MP lens that aids depth perception, along with the ability to add effects when editing an image.
The impressive 20MP selfie camera is the same as that featured on Xiaomi’s Mi 8 device and is crafted with “Super Pixel” technology that allows the lens to capture more light, enabling better quality selfies.
Further, AI technology can detect over 25 different scenes and adjust accordingly.
We told you that the raw specifications speak for themselves. The F1 has been crafted with a whopping 4000mAh battery; bigger than that in Samsung’s S9 Plus and Apple’s iPhone X.
Xiaomi’s testing claims that this allows for 30 hours of continuous talk time. Meanwhile, Quick Charge 3.0 compatibility means that you are able to charge the F1 up to 50% in less than half an hour.
Also coming with the Pocophone F1 is a unique ‘LiquidCool System’ that helps to keep the device cool when high demands are placed upon it. This works by carrying heat from main components of the phone to other parts within the device, where it can then be dissipated.
The system has been designed to prolong peak performance times, with Poco themselves claiming that the system enables a temperature decrease of up to five degrees Celsius.
MIUI for Poco Interface
With a new device comes a new and improved interface.
The F1 comes with ‘MIUI for Poco’, a redesign of MIUI that has been specifically crafted for the Pocophone.
The ‘POCO Launcher’ is a skin over Xiaomi’s MIUI skin, and gives the device more similarity to stock Android. A new app drawer (similar to that on the Pixel 2) allows you to manage apps more logically, as well as hide those that you want limited access to.
Further, Xiaomi has promised security updates every quarter.
