Gemini PDA Clove Technology UK SpreadsheetsSince we first reported on it last year, the Gemini PDA has been quietly gathering speed. Initially conceived as a crowdfunded prototype on Indiegogo, this quirky clamshell has now been manufactured and is in the hands of early backers around the world.

One question we’ve been fielding from lots of people for over a year now is: “when are you going to start selling it!” Well, the answer to that question is NOW!

Planet Computers swung by the Clove offices this morning to hand deliver a 4G unit to us. Strictly speaking, this is founder Chris Love’s (who built Clove off the back of selling Psion PDAs in the ’90s); he backed the crowdfunding project. It’ll probably spend more time in the office over the next few days than his pocket though!

While they were here, we went over their plans for the rest of the year. There are still some crowdfunding backers who are yet to receive their units. Planet tells us they should all be fulfilled in the next month depending on location. At the same time, they are also getting units ready for new customers.

Both the 4G Cellular and Wi-Fi only models are on track to be in stock next month. We expect stock on June 18th for the 4G version (£599 / £499.17 ex. VAT) & June 25th for the Wi-Fi (£499 / £415.83 ex. VAT).

As such we have now opened orders on the Clove website. As always we offer global dispatch.

    Gemini PDA International Keyboard Options

We have ordered and will be holding stock of the UK QWERTY models (with UK mains charger). These will be available for immediate dispatch from the dates given above.

Planet also offer several international keyboard options. It is possible for us to order these, although it would be on a request basis and we will likely not hold stock. An option to order a “Custom Keyboard” is now listed on our product page. Please note that orders for any Gemini unit without a UK QWERTY configuration may take up to an additional 2 weeks to dispatch.

  • I’ve got one, a 4G/Wifi model. Early days yet but it seems ok; Android on a landscape device like that with that wide but virtually-lacking resolution needs to be worked upon, device is quick for a MediaTek device… But, the case on mine has a problem – the sim/SD metal cover keeps popping off at the LED end when I open/close the device, and Planet have basically suggested that was my fault because “we would have noticed that during QA”. They don’t have spares either (yet, if ever).
