Why do you need people to reconfirm subscriptions?

Like almost every retail organisation, we have a database of email addresses that we use to send out promotional information.

This can be for a variety of reasons. New product releases, special offer pricing, competitions and also news stories. All of these and more are often best communicated via direct emails to our audience.

From May 25th of this year, the European Union will be enforcing strict new rules regarding Data Protection. Together these regulations are commonly known as GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation).

One aspect of GDPR is that businesses will need explicit consent to send marketing communications to individuals. As such, our existing database of email addresses needs to be updated.

By signing up via this process, we get your consent to send you marketing communications. You can always unsubscribe from this list at any time in the future.

You can click HERE if you would like to read more about GDPR and how Clove Technology will be complying by the deadline.

Will GDPR stop me buying from Clove?

No. We will though be changing our website checkout. By May 25th this will include a checkbox to state you agree to receive marketing emails. We will also be providing the option for customers to change their marketing preferences from their online accounts.

If you do not wish to receive marketing emails this will not affect your ability to place an order on our website. You can simply leave the marketing consent checkbox unticked when you order. If you have a subscription and want to change this, you can opt-out from your account at a later date.

Standard order emails (order confirmation, order dispatch etc.) are not affected by GDPR. It is considered necessary to business operations that we send communications such as these. As such storing your email address by itself is perfectly OK and accepted.

Marketing emails, however, are not considered a necessary function of the business. As such we must receive explicit consent from people before we are able to send them this type of email.

If you have a subscription with us and do not reconfirm it by the GDPR deadline, then we will have to stop sending you marketing emails. You can resubscribe at any time.
