Where the 3, 5 and 6 were decidedly entry-level to mid-range, this newest handset will challenge the flagship models. Early specifications show a Snapdragon 835, 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage. This will certainly be no slouch!

The design is also befitting a premium model. An aluminium unibody with tapered edges and Gorilla Glass 5 coated QHD round off a fine specification sheet.

Dual Sight Camera and OZO Audio

Alongside the top-tier hardware specifications, Nokia are also introducing a few software additions! The 3, 5 and 6 were all basically stock Android, with no additional features.

This time Nokia will still keep the interface clean, however they have integrated a couple of unique features into the system.

The Dual Sight camera caught the eye of bloggers a few weeks ago. Nokia are awkwardly trying to use the phrase #bothie to advertise the system. Whatever you think of that non-word, the technology itself looks pretty sharp. Nokia 8’s camera app will let you shoot still images or video using both the front and rear camera simultaneously.

That rear main camera also has a trick up its sleeve. It is actually two 13 MP sensors, one of which is monochrome (black and white). We’ve seen this technology in Huawei and Honor phones recently to great effect. The Nokia sensors also benefit from precision ZEISS optics.

The last feature of note is OZO audio. Audio is often far down the list when people are looking at a phone. If you’re into your music though, or enjoy making recordings, the OZO system could be a very useful feature. With 3 microphones, the Nokia 8 can record 360° audio. This is then perfectly optimised for headphones, or audio systems with spatial audio support. The resulting sound is much more immersive.
