Getting started with connected home equipment might seem like a daunting task. Often though, products such as Philips Hue Starter Kits are available to make that first step a simple one.
Lighting is usually the best place to start when looking at a smart home. It’s something we interact with several times daily. As such, it’s easy to learn new patterns of use when interacting with smart lights.
Lots of companies are producing smart home equipment and Clove stock a fair range.
Philips Hue benefits from being one of the most robust options available from single manufacturer. Not only do they have a lot of products and options to pick from, they have also ensured communication with other major brands and Apple HomeKit.
As the name implies, Starter Kits set you up with all you need to get going. Each kit will contain at least one bulb, along with a Bridge unit. The Bridge acts as the central control station for all of your Philips Hue items.

Philips Hue Starter Kits
At the time of writing we have four kits available. Some of these also have options for different types of bulbs.
This kit really shows off what Hue can do. The colour ambience range are Philips’ top-tier bulbs and this kit includes three of them.
Available in three options, you can choose from E27 screw, B22 bayonet or GU10 spotlight.
The bulbs are fully dimmable, down to 5% of the maximum brightness via the app or connected dimmer. The LEDs have complete user control for a potential 16 million discrete colours.
If you want something a little more simple, then White Ambiance bulbs may be your style.
These are also dimmable to 5%, with 50,000 discrete shades of white available. The kit contains 2 bulbs, 1 Bridge and a wireless dimmer switch.
Currently Clove only stock a kit with E27 fittings. You can though purchase White Ambiance bulbs separately in B22 or GU10 versions
Probably the easiest smart home starter kit ever conceived! The basic White simply includes 2 E27 bulbs and 1 Bridge.
All you need to do to get started is plug in the Bridge and bulb, then download the Philips app to your phone.
The basic White bulbs are not dimmable, although you do have complete remote control. Having the Bridge introduces you to the concept of timing your lights.
Similar to the basic White kit, this box contains the Iris lamp in place of a White bulb.
Iris works like one of the full colour ambiance bulbs, with 16 million colour LEDs and dimming.
However instead of adding to a light fixture, the Iris is standalone. It requires mains power and is designed to be placed on a shelf, table or in a corner to fill a room with ambient light.
