Crystalusion Liquid Glass claims to be a credible alternative to standard screen protection solutions, but exactly what benefits does it provide to the average user? It can be difficult to directly compare products that go about reaching their end goal in such different ways, so how does the Liquid Glass solution win over traditional plastic films?
This ones a biggy – without extremely due care, a lot of liquid and some serious patience, it can be very difficult to apply a traditional screen protector without forming some bubbles. Some more expensive traditional protectors have developed adhesives that make things easier – but then you’re paying more money! Application of Crystalusion results in an invisible bubble free coating as the transparent, thin layer of silica molecules comes to rest on the surface
Time for some long words: hydrophobic and oleophobic. Simply put, these mean water-repellent and oil-repellent. The super-thin layer of glass that forms on treated surface results in water and oil molecules being unable to rest. The matrix formed has gaps that are too small for the offending substance to pass through and therefore can be easily removed. This means that once Crystalusion is on your screen, dirty fingerprints, rainwater and dust will all be incredibly easy to remove.
The technology is also used in separate products with different delivery methods to treat and protect fabrics from spillages and liquid damage.
Traditional screen protectors are always really obvious after being applied. However thin and well cut to your device they may be, the edges can be seen around the screen, affecting the look of your device. After a while they often tend to curl up or collect small amounts of dirt at the edges too. An application of Crystalusion is completely invisible to the naked eye – you simply can’t tell from looking that anything has been added to the screen. With device design a huge part of modern smartphones, keeping it looking they way it was intended is a big plus.
No effect on touch
This might divide some, but a standard screen protector can sometimes feel like it is ‘in the way’ of your finger. The added film, although not affecting the actual use of the phone screen, still doesn’t feel the same as the original glass. Also as the film degrades over time it can become rough to the touch. Crystalusion maintains the natural feel of your device and doesn’t impede your use in any way. In fact, the oleophobic coating will mean your fingers slide across the screen more easily, whilst not affecting the heat transition that makes capacitive screens work.
There’s no two ways about it, every screen protector results in a slightly dulled display. Even the Sony Xperia Z, which ships with an ultra thin machine applied screen protector, has a minor effect on brightness that can be seen by removing it. Whilst this was once a trade off for the added security of protection, it no longer has to be this way. A liquid Glass coating has zero effect on light transmission and so your screen will remain as bright to your eyes as the manufacturer intended. This has the added benefit of making Crystalusion suitable to cover the lens on your device’s camera(s), or for use on other technology, such as HDTVs.
