Microsoft is planning to release iOS and Android versions of Microsoft Office in 2013, The Verge has reported.
Information suggests that the iOS version will arrive first, in late February or early March, and the Android version will then be available in May.
The Microsoft Office app will be released for free, but will only offer document viewing functionality initially. There will then be the option of an in-app purchase of an Office 365 subscription, which will allow for document editing.
Even the basic version of the app for document viewing will require you to have a Microsoft account. It’s good news that Office is finally making it’s way to Android and iOS, but with other free apps available now and offering more features for editing (such as Kingsoft Office International), it may be a while still before we see the full benefits of what the official Microsoft app can offer.
