Samsung Galaxy Note II – Uses S3 HDMI Adapter

We thought we ought to test the Samsung Galaxy Note 2’s TV out feature.

Having done so we can confirm that it does use the same MHL/HDMI adapter as the Samsung Galaxy S3.

You can see it in action below, but if you require a HDMI adapter or the Note 2, CLICK HERE to obtain one.

  1. Will I be able to use the BBC iplayer app to play programs through this cable, onto a TV? Apple Ipad have Airplay (similar functionality, only wireless) but the BBC app content is locked out of being able to play on a compatible TV.

    • Chris Ward says:

      Hi Geo,

The MHL cable mirrors whatever is on your screen, so you will be able to play back BBC iPlayer.

      • Is there a “remote” to use for the Note 2?

Obviously utility of hdmi connection and hooking the Note up to a TV is limited if one needs to actually touch the screen to change apps, channels etc.

  2. Hi,

I have choosen the Samsung Note II and I see a number of videos about the HDMI output,
A very nice feature but can someone tell me what the maximum resolution is of this output?

    Greetings Danny….

    • Hi Danny, the screen on the Samsung Galaxy Note II supports 720p HD at a resolution of 720 x 1280
The HDMI output will follow the standard MHL specification and so will be capable of outputting video at a resolution of 1080p (1080 x 1920).
Samsung adapted the MHL connector on the Galaxy Note II and the Galaxy S3 so they use 11 pins and are not interchangeable with other 5 pin MHL adapters.
If you have 1080p media stored on your Galaxy Note II and wish to play it back on an HDTV or another HDMI equipped display then there should be no problem as long as you have the correct adapter

  3. I have Note 2 and Adapter for SIII but i cant connect to TV via MHL connector which is original. And my TV brand Philips and the model 42PFL5604H/12. Could you please help me for connection to TV?

    • Presumably you have the power connected to the HD adapter. Is the display full 1080? Sometime try disconnecting the HDMI cable from the adapter, connect the adapter to the phone and then connect HDMI cable again.

  4. I m sorry. I forgot basic solution. I turned on and off my Note 2. Connection is OK right now. Thank you.

  5. My connection was working before the update, but after the update for the multitasking, the sound of my videos wont come out of the tv. Everything still works fine except for the audio part, its coming out of my Note 2 instead of the tv. I’m just wondering if I’m the only one having this problem. Thanks for your time!!

  6. Hello I have the note two I live in the uk and have tried 3 official Samsung 11pin cables and none of them work I brougbt them from shops and even ordered one for Samsung I have the latest software update all I get is charging is there something wrong with my phone or is there no support for the uk note 2

    • Have you tried connecting it to multiple TV’s? We struggled on a TV that had a 720p resolution but the 1080p worked fine.

  7. I am new to note2 and interested in getting an adapter for the hdtv, mostly to watch videos and movies from my note to the tv. I am confused with so many accessories. What is the best adapter/accessory? A samsung hub, hdmi adapter or can a smart deck be used?

    • Ena, It is personal opinion. HDMI adapter is cheapest and most reliable as a cable connection. The Samsung Hub/AllShare Cast is without wires but more expensive. The dock gives more flexibility in what you can do and is wired in but is expensive.
