The successor to the original Note gets unboxed.
The following is a rather long unboxing video of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, the successor to the original Note. With a larger display, faster processor and Android 4.1, what is it really like?

Constantly challenging opinions and looking for new opportunities, Jon develops the product ranges and business activities and very much strives to maintaining growth and taking Clove in to the future.
Never knowing when to stop, he spends too much time in the office! He's very organised; writes lists, reports, spreadsheets, you name it, he's on to it!! When he does relax, however, he can be found driving his pride and joy (his Range Rover Sport), walking his Dog, down the pub or at a local restaurant. He does too like the finer things in life and often lives beyond his means, only the best hotels will do.

Pretty comprehensive but would like to have heard mention of the status led/indicator which was missing from the original Note. I believe the Note II has the same indicator as the S3 but would like to be sure! Output current of the charger would have been nice to know as that battery will take some time to charge with a “normal” 500/750 mAh type charger. You expressed some concern over the size of the keyboard but did not show the mode where, in portrait mode, the keyboard can be slightly shrunk and biased to the left or right side of the screen for easier use with one thumb. Latitude was mentioned (and shown as a shortcut) but Google have had a lot of flak for removing the shortcut in the latest Maps update (Sept 19th) so I assume that the version on the Note II is the pre 19th Sept version.
Would also have been good to see the S-Pen used to do partial screen-caps as I believe the S-Pen can grab parts of web pages for pasting into a note and, indeed, will keep the web page and the note on the screen at the same time. Would also have been good to see the pop out video box being moved around the screen and re-sized.
Looking forward to Part 2 when some of these matters will be covered!
Nice overview, thanks! It seems from the forums that the Note 10.1 split-screen feature has been implemented in the Note 2 in some countries, it would be useful to check if this is in the European variant, too?
This will be a modification to the ROM as looking at the ROM file there is a difference between the file that has it and the one that does not:-
NT7100XXALIE does not have multi-windows whilst NT7100XXALIX does have multi-windows.

Curious, presumably it’s limited In distribution as it’s still a bit beta; hopefully it will roll out to all devices eventually.
Really nice vid, thanks for all the info.
I was at the Samsung store for the launch today. There was a bit of a queue outside, nothing like Apple proportions (luckily!). Unfortunately the people working at the store were ill equiped to deal with the situation as there was very little information on the deals available. I had to personally stay in line for 2 hours, after which we were told to go to the phones4u store to purchase the phone on contract. This seemed the only viable option, as the sim free phone was sold for £569.99, hardly an exclusive price! The contract deal was not available on O2, the phone was only available in the white (although the titanium grey was on display in store) 16GB variant without LTE. The deal was to get the phone free on a 24 month contract for £36/month (with various text, call and data plans depending on networks). A lot of people (myself included) were dissapointed and walked away empty handed. Next time, I hope Samsung underpromises and overdelivers rather than the other way around. I’ll wait for the 32/64GB titanium grey version before springing for this, and will be getting it right here from Clove as they seem to be the first out with sensible information on the product, and selling it at the right price point.
Hi Nick,
It’s a shame you had a bad experience at the store yesterday. There’s still a long way to go with the learning curve for these launches
We’ll post the details up as soon as we have them
This is almost certainly the phone my gf will be getting. Shame the grey’s delayed; like me she doesn’t like white phones.
She works in e-learning so being able to cut out part of a webpage, paste it into a note and send it to one of her worker bees with an arrow saying “this bit’s wrong” will be invaluable. She also loves the split screen; if that’s not in the UK version hopefully it will be before long (perhaps XDA Devs can help with that).
I’ve just been checking the various deals available and it’s looking as though buying it SIM freee plus a 12-month SIM-only monthly contract is significantly cheaper than getting it on a 24-month contract.
