Get paid £25 to drive 250 miles with confused.com Android app

Confused.com has launched an app called MotorMate that will pay £25 to the first 5,000 people (Ts & Cs here) that log 250 miles driving via the app. There’s also a car charger and cradle up for grabs once you have driven 20 miles. Download the app from the Play Store here.

Confused.com MotorMate

The MotorMate app seems to be a means for Confused.com to gather data on driving style, as well as to promote ‘telematics’ insurance policies. Telematics, also know as black box and smart box insurance, offers personalised insurance based on when and how you drive. This does involve having a black box (approximately the size of a deck of cards) fitted in your car to monitor your driving, but confused.com assures that this is ‘a lot less Big Brother than you think’. This could be worthwhile for ‘high-risk’ groups such as new or infrequent drivers, which pay high premiums based on the ‘average driver’ from their demographic.

The MotorMate App needs to be switched on before the start of a journey and then turned off again once the journey is complete. It then gives you a MotorMark score after each journey based on how good your driving is (it can measure acceleration, braking, cornering and speed). The first 5,000 people to log 250 miles driving with the app can claim £25 cashback. There’s also the possibility to claim an additional £25 if you take out an insurance policy.

It looks like there are some compatibility issues as the reviews on the Play Store are mostly negative, but there are a few that say the app works well. Still, there’s no harm in registering and giving the app a go – it’s an easy £25 if it does work for you.

  1. Interesting idea but I’d be surprised if £25 covered the cost of petrol in the first place.

    • Don’t think it is supposed to cover your fuel. Designed to be used on your normal drives etc and maybe gather the mileage over a few days.
