There’s been some confusion about what this can actually do.
From what I gather on XDADevs Samsung is advertising it as 1080p; however there’s no device currently available that can feed it more than 720p (including the S3).
Also there are apparently a lot of compression artifacts on, say, movies. So probably not so great for movies, possibly not great for games, but fine for more static content such as photos.
To add to that it seems that Samsung has added a check to detect custom ROMs, and as such the dongle will not function unless a workaround like Triangle Away is applied. Also users have reported connectivity issues with it. I am hopeful that Samsung will fix this in the time to come, but until then, I am staying away from this particular accessory.
Yea that’s a good point about the 1080p.
I gave the HTC Media Link HD a test and I would expect the AllShare to be pretty much the same. Perhaps being released a bit later it will have some better technology.
I found the Media Link HD was OK for watching movies stored on the phone, but streaming video from the net wasn’t great. Neither was multi tasking. Some of that will come down to the Wi-Fi speed, but realistically a Wi-Fi connection is going to be shared most of the time so will always affect the picture quality.
I’ve just got the all share cast for y s3. It only does 720p video. It’s fine for viewing videos off the phone but seems to develop a slight lag between the audio and video on streaming. But sometimes the lag isn’t nociable.
