Smartphone ‘How To’

Because sometimes we just have to ask.

ID-10087052There comes a time for most of us (we know some of you know all you can about phones) when we are just not sure of how to do something.

There are many examples we could give, from a simple factory reset through to setting a a specific led notification light colour for emails from your Mum.

So the question is who or where do you turn to, to find the answer?

Friends, the web, forums, the manufacturer, the phone shop?

About Jon

Constantly challenging opinions and looking for new opportunities, Jon develops the product ranges and business activities and very much strives to maintaining growth and taking Clove in to the future.

Never knowing when to stop, he spends too much time in the office! He's very organised; writes lists, reports, spreadsheets, you name it, he's on to it!! When he does relax, however, he can be found driving his pride and joy (his Range Rover Sport), walking his Dog, down the pub or at a local restaurant. He does too like the finer things in life and often lives beyond his means, only the best hotels will do.

I usually end up at the XDA forums. It can be a bit intimdating at first as many members/users use shorthand phrases that will initially just bewilder a newcomer – the average user may not know what “CWM”, “NANDROID” and “CYANOGEN” refer to or mean but we all have to start somewhere and there are many people on XDA willing to help newcomers and explain things in detail.

      I’m the same.

Back in the day it was extremely complicated to flash custom ROMs and you pretty much had to work out each step yourself. I managed to get Android onto my HD2 but it was a real headache.

Nowadays I’m seeing more all-in-one helper apps that lead you through the steps and make it reasonably simple. I found one when I updated my HD2 to ICS and another more recently when i rooted my S3.

For simpler things XDA is still my best bet, but Google often throws up help from elsewhere.
