Technology–Making your life easier

Is there room for improvement?

Whatever angle we look at it technology is always evolving in one way shape or another.

However it has got to the point where a lot of everyday tasks can now be automated or improved through the use of technology.

We can get reminders on our phones, set multiple alarms, have local weather information and direct links to navigation from an address in our contact database, even schedule the time we want messages sent, but is that enough?!

Sure in time we will get more options, but;

Is there anything that you feel has not improved or developed as you would have expected by now?

For example, I think phone integration with TV is still poor.  It is possible and improving but being able to set recordings when away from home would be handy and I think many would use a lot, but few can due to current setups and configurations.

About Jon

Constantly challenging opinions and looking for new opportunities, Jon develops the product ranges and business activities and very much strives to maintaining growth and taking Clove in to the future.

Never knowing when to stop, he spends too much time in the office! He's very organised; writes lists, reports, spreadsheets, you name it, he's on to it!! When he does relax, however, he can be found driving his pride and joy (his Range Rover Sport), walking his Dog, down the pub or at a local restaurant. He does too like the finer things in life and often lives beyond his means, only the best hotels will do.

    I think there’s massive room for improvement in transport.

    You get bits of what you need in apps that do bus-tracking, find your nearest black cab, tell you TFL train and tram times, national rail train times, plane times and so on but if you want to get from A to B you have to hop back and forth between apps. I tried this recently for an unfamiliar journey; it was a massive pain and I ended up just calling a minicab.

    Google Maps is probably best placed to bring this all together; hopefully they’ll do that soon. If not a lot of the data is freely available and it just needs someone to do a monster mash-up.

    By the way there are apps for Sky and (I think) VM that allow you to tell your box to record a program over the net. The Sky one definitely works and it’s free. I think you can also do it from their websites.

    • Indeed Sky do allow this. Virgin Media do to Tivo customers, we were actually going to post about this today.

      However, it is a fairly under-promoted element and millions who have older boxes/packages cant do this.
