I just had to have it!
Many of us are guilty for buying something we didn’t really need or spending a little more than we really should have.
Be it getting the very latest computer or those speakers that sound slightly better if you wanted to host a concert in your back garden.
So what are your most extravagant electronic gadget purchases and why?
P.S – I determine gadget by something that connects to the mains or needs power.
An iPad3 64GB with GSM – must have got caught up in the hype – it mostly gathers dust now.
My Galaxy Note and Asus Transformer 101 are used far more – I will almost certainly buy the forthcoming Note 2 as long as Samsung have kept the card slot and the replaceable battery.
Still in two minds about a Nexus 7 but I think my adventure with Apple is over.
There is no denying they produce nice designs but I like to tinker and that is not really possible with the closed nature of Apple devices.
We too would be keen to see the inclusion of a card slot and a removable battery. Whilst opinion is moving more towards users being happy with fixed, it is always nice to have the option.
Apple make fantastic products no denying but if you have bought it an it gathers dust that is an expensive object sat there…
There’s no denying when it comes to tech gear I am a number one sucker for the better of the crop…
From £300 earphones to a set of Siemens Gigaset SL910 Home phones for £550.
I like my tech to not just work but have that extra ‘je ne sais quoi’ feature.
Mike
je ne sais quoi indeed with those home phones. Wow! That is a pretty high bar to beat in terms of extravagance, especially for some home phones. Do they get used much Mike? We all just seem to use our mobiles.
Oh yes…. and being what they are they operate in a similar fashion to a Mobile.
Before I had these I had the Archos one’s with Android but they are not a patch on the SL910′s.
Having said all above and this, nothing compares to the toys in my new Volvo XC60…… which took the price near to £50k.
Mike
What toys do you have in the Volvo?
Oh Heck… this is going to be long……
Well, first up it’s the D5 Geartronics AWD with Polestar performance upgrade.
The Geartronics is simply superb allowing you to shift up/down instantly or leave it in auto and let the system take charge. The Polestar adds quite a bit of extra bhp to an already high performance 4WD vehicle meaning those two big tail pipes are needed.
Equipment wise it’s an SE Lux with Driver Support Pack, Safety Pack, Inscription Pack, Navigation Pack, Cream Full Leather seating and interior Pack with more dials and controls on a cream leather steering wheel than I’ve seen icons on my Galaxy S3 home screen.
Sound and viewing wise there’s the Premium Sound System with Subwoofer and DAB Radio system.
Front 7″ digital TV display shows media for passenger whilst driver views Navigation or Car system computer display.
Further multimedia 7″ displays for rear passengers ~ All controlled via personal Remote Controllers the size of a large home TV.
Other bits include ~ Hill decent system for our Pennine Hills.
Premium Sunroof system.
Personal Car Communicator with Auto Boot open/close, Remote and Keyless Entry/Drive.
Volvo on Call system.
To be honest…. there’s so much more available on the inside it would be too much to list here.
The same goes for the outside… with Park Assist Cameras front/rear/sides, Active 4-C Chassis for Comfort, Sport or Advanced.
Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot information system and Active Bending Headlights add to the safety which to be frank I could go on and on.
Honest…. there’s a lot more options ticked but sorry, I’ve lost the will.
Mike
Mike, we can see why.
Sounds like it has everything bar the kitchen sink. Volvo must have loved you!
Thanks……
Yes, Volvo are very big on gadgets and communication.
On that I forgot to say there’s a built in telephone that all you do is add a SIM Card which also liaises with the vehicles computer system’s 1TB hard drive.
I can certainly understand why Volvo are building on the Remote Vehicle Servicing System which you kindly mentioned in another blog.
Trouble now is what to purchase next when I sell the car in 2 years time?
Another Volvo…. possibly.
Mike
