Vehicles are getting smarter thanks to GSM connections.
A little off topic but still loosely related to smartphones. Volvo will next year start introducing to commercial vehicles the ability to remotely connect to a vehicles on board computer.
Using GSM data technicians can get updates on wear and tear, mileage and fault codes that may exist. It will allow technicians to have more information in advance of a vehicle coming in to the workshop and may mean some do not even need to come in.
It is a new technology and it will be some considerable time before it makes it ways to cars, if at all, but it shows how the use of mobile connections is growing into something that could be very powerful for companies running a fleet of vehicles.
So a big Well Done to Volvo, we hope to read of more developments (how it can work in cars) in the future.
