Samsung Galaxy S3 could get Jelly Bean as soon as August

Samsung flagship could be updated to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean within 4-6 weeks

SamMobile is reporting that the Galaxy S3 could receive its update to Jelly Bean as early as August, although you may wish to take that with a pinch of salt.

The site states that ‘there is no date planned yet but it could be around August/September’. Even if the update does arrive in September, it would make it one of the fastest upgrades rolled out by an OEM.

However, experience would tell us to expect the later date of the two, especially given the time that manufacturers have taken to roll out Android updates in the past. SamMobile also speculates that updates for the Galaxy Note, S2 and Tab 7.7 could follow shortly after that of the S3.

With Google announcing the PDK at Google I/O in order to assist with OEM upgrades, hopefully this will be the beginning of quicker upgrades for non-Nexus handsets.

  1. That would be welcome; the Tab 7.7 in particular benefitted hugely from getting updated to ICS this month, only 8 months after ICS debuted; getting JB would go a long way towards placating impatient owners. Personally the JB highlights for me on the Nexus 7 have been the relative ease of being able to juggle around home page icons, particularly within folders, and tinkering around with the vaguely insidious Google Home, but a smoother UI would be more obvious on the Tab 7.7 and older devices.
