A huge, portable battery for multiple devices
Kickstarter has produced some superb smartphone-related inventions recently and this continues with the POP, a stylish, 25,000 mAh batteries that can charge multiple devices at once.
The largest portable device charger available
The POP is the kind of device that would come in handy for holidays and group activities, especially those such as camping trips where there is no power source readily available. It comes with 4 charging cables, which feature connections for both Apple and microUSB (Android/BlackBerry/Windows Phone) devices. The cheapest option on Kickstarter has already sold out, but the next available option is available at $149 (£95). Should it make it to retail, the POP will come with a price tag of $199. At this price, it’s a luxury item, but when you consider that it can provide up to 10 full charges of the iPhone, that’s a good few days worth of charging for a group of 4 or 5 people.

I’ve had a PowerGorilla for a couple of years. Slightly lower capacity than this but I think it’s more versatile.
I bought it as a spare laptop battery as it was about the same price as the bespoke battery but could do far more.
It comes with most common connectors for laptops and phones and they’re very good at making others available very cheaply; I bought one for a few pounds that allows it to charge my Transformer Prime. It already came with everything I’ve needed to run several laptops, my MiniRig speaker and various phones.
A nice touch is that you can use various power adapters to charge the PowerGorilla and simultaneously power a device; e.g. you can use your laptop’s adapter to charge the PowerGorilla and power your laptop at the same time.
It can charge a USB device at the same time as it charges something else, e.g. my Prime or a laptop.
There’s a solar panel add-on available for charging it but I’ve never tried that.
It’s expensive if you’re just going to use it to charge your phone, but if you have additional uses for it then it becomes more viable.
Just had a look at the PowerGorilla, being able to charge it whilst still powering a laptop sounds like a very useful feature. I guess the main thing that they’re going for with the POP is the aesthetics, it just looks a bit nicer than the big black slap that is the PowerGorilla. Solar panel compatibility is a nice add on as well.
