UPDATE: Each person registered can be sponsored £26 per day, not £26 in total. We have now created a team called Clove, so feel free to join if you want to take part.
As part of its affiliation with the London 2012 Olympic Games, Samsung has released a great app, called Samsung Hope Relay, for Android that will enable you to raise sponsorship money for select charities by walking, swimming or running.
By installing the app, you can donate up to £26 to a pre-selected charity (see the app terms and conditions for details). Samsung will sponsor £1 per mile per person up to 26 miles (a marathon) and there is £667,000 ($1 million) available in sponsorship money in total. Given the HUGE number of Android users there are now, it would be pretty shameful if this figure is not easily hit.
There are some terms and conditions that you will need to comply to, but they are not too complicated and worth the few minutes it will take to setup. You’ll need to upload a photo of yourself to create an avatar, but apart from that it’s really just a case of filling in personal details as usual.
It’s worth noting that in order to use the app, you’ll need GPS and 3G turned on, so if you’re not on an all you can eat data tariff, make sure you monitor the data that’s being consumed (it shouldn’t be too much for an app like this).
A few of us from the Clove team will be giving the app a go – feel free to send in any screen shots if you complete the challenge for extra cred; we’ll get the shots posted on the Clove Blog once we’ve had a few sent in.
The promotion has now started and runs until midnight on 12th August 2012, you can checkout the official site here.
