0800 numbers are ‘freephone’ numbers but only if you call from a landline in the UK. Call from a mobile and you will be charged.
It appears that this is leading to confusion amongst the public and Ofcom are doing something about it.
The main goal is to stop confusion over which telephone numbers are actually free to call.
Many are opting for a mobile as our primary contact number and it can cost up to 21p minute from a mobile.
A final decision regarding the new proposed rules can be expected to be made by 2013.

I moved to Ireland 7 years ago and soon noticed that 1800 numbers (same as 0800 in UK) were free. Even stranger if I call the UK from Ireland 0800 numbers are free also.
So its about time that UK customers get what should have been free from the get go.
That is strange, will have to remember that one!
Just use 0800 Buster for the time being if you have to call 0800 numbers 01237200800 works the same as calling cards but will come out of your minutes
