The Sony Xperia S possesses 32 GB of internal storage but not having an expansion slot will be a big deal for a lot of potential users. This demonstration will hopefully change your thoughts on this; by showing you that you can store data externally and with the help of a BizLink Micro USB to USB converter you’ll come to see how easy it is to view external media content on your handset.
Sony doesn’t have its own file manager, but the Xperia S comes pre-loaded with Astro file manager. Once your Xperia S is connected to the Micro USB to USB converter you can either connect a USB stick or a MIcroSD card to USB adaptor. You will then need to browse the ‘usbdisk’ folder in Astro file manager to view your USB files.
It really is this simple – check out this demonstration video below from the guys at Xperiablog.net

Our own customers have expressed concerns of the fixed external storage and I can see the benefits of this USB function. However Sony are offering 50GB of cloud-based storage using ‘Box’ (downloadable from the Android Market) to every Xperia S. This is essentially a free upgrade from the 5GB service. There will be a similar offer on all other Xperia phones as it seems that Sony, like many manufacturers, are continually trying to push storage into cloud-based services going forward.
Thanks, Dean

Hi Dean,
Yea it is a great offer that Box has going at the moment. I think it has now been made available to all compatible Android devices as opposed to just the Xperia range. I think we can expect to see a few more offers like this surface this year, especially if Google is going to start offering an improved cloud service.
What about usb mice and keyboards?
Yes they would be fine as well
Hi
I just cannot get this to work with my Xperia S. When I insert the Micro USB to USB converter and connect my USB Micro SD card reader it brings up a red triangle in the notification screen warning me “usb consumption error”. it the n brings up a dialog box saying that the “connected device have been disabled”!! Help!!
Not sure what to suggest there David, perhaps that particular USB device is not compatible. Have you tried any others?
Hi, thanks for replying. Changed the type of usb memory connected – Used a Micro Sd Card Reader and a Sandisk Flashdrive and got the same results. I hope that its the Micro Usb to Female Usb cable that’s at fault and not the phone. Can’t use the cable on any other phone to test it as the only other Android I have access to is the HTC Desire which is not compatible. Not impressed…yet.
We had some problems with USB storage devices on the Xperia S, however, it was fine when connecting them via the LiveDock. We’ve managed to connect Mouse & Keyboard as well.
Hi there
Have tried this just the way U show it on the video but the data on my USB Cruzer Edge does not show up.
USB stick is FAT32 formatted
Hi Jack,
Not sure why that would be happening. Have you tried any other USB storage devices with it?
Hi Chris
Thanks for the advice
I tried a couple of other devices but they weren’t compatible & then when I went back to my original USB stick I was able to connect & read & transfer the files.
Perhaps I’d not ejected the stick properly at some point
Thanx for the great advice that U & Ur team give
Wow that’s really cool! exactly what I wanted!
Will this also work with the Xperia P?
Hi,
We can’t say for certain as we haven’t tested with the P yet. However, USB hosting can be achieved using the Sony LiveDock, which we have here:

Hi,
Do you have any idea that we can connect the Xperia ICS with any other devices, such like: barcode scanner…etc.
Cause I don’t want to bring the notebook with barcode scanner to collect the data from barcode. But seems I can’t find a good application to collect a lots of barcodes into 1 single document. Do you have any ideas?
My phone is Xperia S and running ICS.
Hi Andy,
Have you tried connecting a bar code scanner? Or are you asking if it will work if you do connect one?
