Samsung Galaxy S 2 Ice Cream Sandwich Update Coming March 15th?

According to Android Central, Samsung Israel has let slip that the SGS2 Ice Cream Sandwich update will begin rolling out on March 15th. The translated post detailing availability has since been removed, but read along the lines of:

We promised we were working on it. You waited patiently. And on 15 March it’ll arrive: Android version 4, ICS, to tens of thousands of GALAXY S II devices purchased from cellular companies in the country or directly from us. We are very excited for the launch, hope you are too :)

This is good news for owners of SIM-free Samsung Galaxy S II handsets who could receive the update well before the end of the month. We’ll keep you updated with any more news on Samsung’s best-selling device.

      Hi Terry,

When the update is available for your handset, you will receive a prompt in your notifications bar to download it. You may wish to back up any photos, music, contacts in the normal way before hand. Regarding apps backup, I found that when I received the update on my Nexus S, my apps (and things like Wi-Fi passwords) were automatically restored. This was also the case when performing a hard reset on the device. I think this is a feature of ICS as I have since used Gingerbread devices and my apps have not been automatically downloaded again. However, if you’re apps are not automatically downloaded again, you can access them from the Google Play apps store. If you go to ‘my apps’ and scroll down, you can see any apps that you have paid for and these can be downloaded again free of charge. Your free apps will not be displayed, but you can view these via your Google account on a desktop computer if you cannot remember which ones you have downloaded.
