I mentioned a couple of these in a post yesterday about Google’s rumoured Cloud Drive service, but here’s a list of free cloud storage that’s currently available. If you know of any others that are worthwhile, please share them in the comments below.
Box – free 50GB storage with an Xperia handset. This is a great offer; 50GB is a huge amount of free storage. If you sign up with a work email address, you can then invite people with an email address under the same domain to get the deal, (or get 100GB for yourself if you have two addresses!) regardless of the handset they use.
Dropbox – 5GB free storage when using its new beta app to automatically upload photos. Slightly more long winded but worthwhile to have your photos automatically uploaded to the cloud.
Google – 9GB via Gmail. This useful guide from Recombu shows you have to use Google services (Gmail, Google Docs, Google+) to store and edit documents in the cloud. There are limitations such as 25GB file size, but it is a great method for creating and editing docs across various devices.
SkyDrive – 25GB of free storage. Similar to Google Docs, SkyDrive gives you 25GB of storage to back up photos, videos and documents. You can log in to SkyDrive with an existing Windows Live ID.
SugarSync and Amazon also offer 5GB free storage when you sign up. I can’t vouch for these personally as I have not used them, but no doubt they are as good as any other service.
Skydrive?
Thanks Andy, now added to the post.
