The Motorola Milestone 2 has now been discontinued and is no longer available from Clove Technology. As an alternative we would recommend the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro or Motorola Pro+.
The Milestone 2 has already been revived once – a few months ago it was discontinued but then became available again a month later. This time we’re less likely to see a return with similar device such as the Pro+ and Xperia Pro available to purchase.
The Milestone 2 was a popular Android slider, competing with the HTC Desire Z when it first launched. The Droid 3 (the handset that would have been the Milestone 3), was launched in the US only last year so Motorola has not released a direct successor here in the UK. However, anyone looking for a Motorola handset with a physical keyboard should consider the Motorola Pro+, which offers a superb range of business and security features in a pocketable design. Check out a review here.
A more comparable alternative in terms of form factor would be the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro which, like the Milestone 2, has a slide out QWERTY keyboard. While the Xperia Pro does not have the business security features of a Motorola handset, it does have some other benefits such as a Micro HDMI port and 8.1 Megapixel camera. For a more thorough comparison, check out the device comparison tool on the Clove website.

Let’s hope that this is indicative that the Milestone 4 is just around the corner. I’m afraid the Pro+ form factor just doesn’t cut it for me.
There has been some speculation of Motorola launching the Droid 4 as the Milestone 4 internationally, although we’ll have to wait to see whether or not it’ll come to the UK. Seeing as Motorola didn’t launch the Milestone 3 here and HTC didn’t do a follow up to the Desire Z, perhaps sales were too low to warrant the release of a successor. Still, Android’s market share has grown a lot since the release of those two handsets so maybe it is time for another QWERTY slider from Motorola.
