More PSOne Classics Coming To The Xperia PLAY

I’ve been pretty damn tempted recently to purchase a Sony Xperia PLAY, especially with the release of GTA III. Now there’s a range of new PSOne classics including Rayman & Driver coming to the PLAY, it may be even harder to resist the Android gaming device. However, it’s not just the gaming features that interest me with the PLAY, it’s the media features as well.

Another handset from the Xperia range combined with the Sony Ericsson LiveDock could be equally as tempting (unfortunately the PLAY is not compatible with the LiveDock). The LiveDock offers USB hosting, meaning the likes of game controllers, mouse & keyboard and memory sticks can be easily connected. We tested GTA III with the PS3 controller connected to the LiveDock last week on the Xperia Arc. Most functions work, but it is not yet completely compatible. Hopefully this will be fixed with a future update.

So the choice comes down to an Xperia PLAY with classic Playstation games but no LiveDock and therefore no USB hosting (although this should be possible when the Xperia range is updated to ICS) or one of the other Xperia handsets with the Livedock. I think the PLAY may just edge it, but either way it’s a nice decision to have to make.
