Since the announcement of the Motorola RAZR, we’ve had a few people asking about whether or not its bootloader will be unlocked. Going by this report from Ausdroid, it’s looking quite optimistic that our stock will have a bootloader unlock solution.
Ausdroid’s Irwin Proud spoke directly with Motorola to confirm that ‘the RAZR will be first phone to have this bootloader solution included’. He also confirms that ‘the global version of the RAZR will still have the [bootloader] code in it, but there will still be an opportunity for carriers to disable it’.
So the Motorola RAZR will come with code for an unlocked bootloader, although carriers will have the option to lock the bootloader if they wish to. Seeing as our stock is SIM-free and comes with no carrier ties, there’s a good chance that the bootloader will be unlocked – we will confirm for definite as soon as possible. Ausdroid has also confirmed that ‘once Motorola has officially launched the phone in their global markets, they will be working to have a list of the models that will be unlocked displayed on their motodev.com website’,
