NFC phones coming from HTC, ZTE & Sharp

We haven’t seen the release of many NFC phones in the UK just yet – some of those launched so far include the Samsung Nexus S, BlackBerry Bold 9900, and BlackBerry Curve 9360. However, it looks like there will be some more on the way soon, with Sharp and ZTE signing up to the NFC Forum at an associate level and HTC being added as an ‘NFC implementer’.

NFC is a relatively new technology and we are likely to see its use become much more widespread over the coming years. Its main uses include contactless payment and the sharing of information between handheld devices, such as smartphones. A few months ago we filmed this demo of an NFC tag in action with the Samsung Nexus S. NFC tags such as the one used in our video can be attached to smart posters and programmed remotely, making it easy to update the information provided by the tag. Expect to see many more of these emerge within the very near future as NFC in smartphones becomes more commonplace.
