With today’s surprising announcement, I wonder if Moto phones will be getting better support after release..

Might be only their newer models will get the Google treatment.

  2. So if I install a custom Gingerbread ROM, overclock it to 1 GHz, undervolt it a bit, and pop in a battery with a slightly higher capacity than the original one I have converted my old Defy into a Defy+ …

Or did they increase the amount of RAM too?

  3. (according to the Motorola site the Defy+ only gets 512 MB of RAM, same as the old Defy)

  4. The defy+ has 1gb rom which the older defy does not have according to the specs list.

  5. Motorola is mixing up the terms “ROM” and “internal memory” on its website.

The original Defy has 2 GB of internal memory, of which about 1 GB is available for user apps. The other gigabyte is the ROM with the firmware (i.e. the part that you can only change by flashing your phone). Looks like the Defy+ will get the same 2GB chip as the old Defy: 1 GB worth of Gingerbread ROM, and another gig for your apps.

From the looks of it, you can upgrade your Defy to a Defy+ for the price of a battery unless Moto really pops in a new CPU instead of changing the clock speed of the old (underclocked) one.
