SpellDial name dialling service

We’ve just come across this cool new service called SpellDial. It’s a great concept and we can see it taking off if enough people get involved with it.

The way the service works is that you sign up and assign a username to your telephone number. The logic is that it is easier for us to remember a name than a telephone number. While this may not apply to numbers that you already have saved on your phone, it could be useful for business numbers that you do not have saved or a number that you have heard on the radio for instance. The service could also be useful if you are out and about but do not have access to your own telephone and contact numbers.

In order to dial a number using SpellDial, visit http://www.spelldial.com/app on your phone. You then enter the SpellDial username that you want to call, e.g uk.clovetechnology, and the number assigned to the username is entered on your keypad for you to dial.

From a personal point of view, it could make things a lot simpler assigning your number to a username. That way, when you change your telephone number you will not need to send it to all your contacts again, but simply reassign the number on your SpellDial account.

As of yet there is not a mobile app available for SpellDial, but the API has been opened up to developers for those that are interested in developing an app for different platforms.
