There has been a lot of talk over the last few months of Amazon having an Android tablet in the making. However, going by reports from Android and me late last week, it now looks as though the retail giant may well have a whole family of Android devices planned.
At the moment there is a lot of speculation floating about as to which manufacturers will supply the various hardware components for the Amazon range, although the various possibilities are detailed thoroughly be Taylor Wimberly of Android and Me, who takes his information from ‘reliable industry insiders’.
In light of last weeks announcements about the Android OS, it would make sense for any forthcoming amazon devices to run Android Ice Cream Sandwich, the forthcoming version of the OS that caters for smartphones, tablets and Google TVs (which Wimberly speculates may also be planned by Amazon).
The release of a variety of devices could be a great move for Amazon, which has recently launched its own Android App Store and Cloud Music Service. It’s already seen massive success with the Amazon Kindle, so there’s no reason as to why it cannot transfer its services to the world of Android electronics. I purchased a Kindle at the start of this year and have been thoroughly impressed with it since. I’m a big fan of Amazon’s services overall so I would certainly consider a tablet or smartphone if they do come to market.
