Sometimes a Wi-Fi network is ‘hidden’. This means that even though there is a signal that can be connected to, the network name and access point is hidden from standard searches on laptops, smartphones and other mobile devices, requiring it to be input manually. Many businesses use this method so their company wireless is not visible to others – even if it is secured through a password, this is a neat trick to add another layer of security on top.
Unfortunately Windows Phone 7 does not offer native support for connecting to hidden networks. So the nice guys at HTC have developed this free to download app that lets you input the SSIDs (names) of up to 3 hidden networks for you to connect to. This application is suitable only for HTC WP7 devices and according to reports may only work following the most recent updates
