Whilst at the CES show, I managed to get some hands on time with the Sony Ericsson Xperia
Arc. Now, I am well aware of the other hands on reviews and videos, but I thought I would just give you a few of my thoughts on the device.
In short, I really liked the device.
The design of the Arc is special. It is rare for me to get excited about a product from Sony
Ericsson, and the last one of their products that did that was the Xperia X1 a couple of years ago.
The glossy silver and black’s on the device do not look at all tacky and in fact seem to draw you in. The screen in super bright and clear.
There is not a lot to say about the software, there was not time to complete a full test of the unit, but it seemed to run well and did of course have Android 2.3 which brings some new benefits. Installed apps for launch are still to be confirmed.
The 12MP camera is excellent, really crisp and clear images and is without doubt one of the highlight features of the device. Is the camera better than a standalone one? Probably not, but unless your an avid photographer, the Arc is certainly more than capable.
I didn’t test the call quality, but usual Sony Ericsson standards should apply here.
Would I have one? That is a difficult question. Whilst incredibly thin, with a stunning screen, design and camera it might just be a little too big for me. I honestly need a little more hands on time to make that decision.
We will bring you more news on the SE Arc as and when it becomes available, but we arecurrently expecting a late Q1 early Q2 launch here in the UK.
