How Good is the Samsung Galaxy Tab £200 Media Giveaway?

We recently posted about the offer that Samsung is putting out with all new Samsung Galaxy Tab devices.  The offer entitles any new Samsung Galaxy Tab owner to up to £200 worth of media from various sources.

Having acquired my own Galaxy Tab, I thought I would try out the offer and see what you got.  In short, there is something for everyone, but it is unlikely that you will really get full value out of it.

If you have not done so, or you are intending to do so, you register your device online at http://www.samsung.com/uk/galaxytab/.  Once you have registered you get an email from Samsung that will look something like the following:

So what is each offer like?

Gameloft – I am not a gamer, but I was not all that impressed with the range of games.  They worked and were worth getting, especially as FREE.

Samsung Movies – Not the greatest range on here, but I did manage to find ones that I either did not own on DVD or would actually want.  There re a few ‘classic’ movies like the Matrix, The Godfather and Forest Gump along with newer movies such as The Hangover, Ironman 2 and Sherlock Holmes.  For me this was the most valuable of the FREE items.

Even if you own some, worth downloading as they are optimised for the Galaxy Tab and you get a FREE PC version too.

Point to note, you can not then hook the Tab up to a TV using a TV cable, it knows it is an encrypted copy and blocks TV output for the downloaded films.  Clever, but a little sneaky.

emusic - A waste of time unless you are into new up and coming artists and less mainstream content. Very few big artists and the catalogue and was of no interest to me.  Stick with your iTunes of equivalent.

WHSmith -  This was worthwhile investment.  If you are not into eBooks, this a good way to start and get the feel at least at no cost to yourself.

So all in all I feel that I got value for money considering the time I invested into looking into each, but if you do not want the hassle, I would advise that you take a look at the movies and WHSmith offer only.

So the ‘deal’ turns out to not be such a deal after all? Kind of a shame, but not so surprised.

    (still want one though!)
