Back in September we reported on RIM’s unveiling of the BlackBerry PlayBook in some detail. The 7” tablet computer, expected in Q1 2011, will feature a brand new version of the BlackBerry OS optimised for tablets developed by the recently acquired software company QNX.
RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis has been reported saying the tablet is RIM “presenting the best platform for the application”. The suggestion is that RIM consider Google and Apple as porting a smartphone OS to a tablet with Android and iOS4; whereas the PlayBook OS (and other optimised OS’s in general) is the way forward for the market. This OS could make it’s way to BlackBerry smartphones in the future but not until the next generation of dual-core processors are available.
A ten minute hands-on of a pre-release has been put together by BGR, take a look below. We have the PlayBook listed but are not currently taking pre-orders until more concrete release information has been provided.
