Now this is an interesting feature of the Samsung Galaxy S I9000 that we were unaware of until now. Some Android devices can do video out using USB or HDMI, but the Galaxy S is the first handset that can do so using the 3.5mm connection.
This is somewhat surprising considering that it is not a feature that has been advertised by Samsung, but according to Androidandme:
The international version of the I9000 has a TV Out option built into the display settings that allows you to pick your TV type (PAL or NTSC). All you need is the appropriate cable, which goes from the 3.5 mm jack to the standard AV ports on your television.
At the moment we do not know whether or not the UK units have the capability to transmit TV Out through the headphone jack, but if anyone has the correct cable to test it, we would love to see the feature in action.
The video below shows the TV Out function being performed on an International Handset.
Not surprised they don’t advertise it.it means the video out for my state of the art phone is composite, shudder, blur. Can I give it back now?
UK instructions say you can, but it doesn’t come with the right cable so not been able to try it for real.
I can confirm my UK-purchased unit does this very well. (I was able to use the headphone connection cable from my Nokia.
I disagree with the picture quality. It’s excellent watching an HD YouTube video.
I’m fair chufffed!!!!
hi there can i plz know which cable you’ve used to connect
hey john B! can u tell me how to connect tv to 3.5m jack?!?! i have the correct lead but cannot find setting anywhere! i desperate!
This is NOT the first phone to have this function, it was also available on the Nokia N95 8Gb. The cable is the same, 3.5mm to composite.
The Galaxy S TV out works briliantly, but dont waste your money on an expensive Samsung cable use the following as I did and you are away, this cable was bought on Amazon, the Samsung version is £12+ and this one is post free, cant go wrong, “Genuine Nokia TV Out Cable CA-75U (Watch your Images or Mobile TV on the big screen!!!).”
£1.40
Sold by: BKAT UK
The NOKIA N900 was able to do this back in 2009 when it was released. Just tried my Nokia cable on my Galaxy S and it works great.
Speaking of mobile TV cables I’ve been using the TV connection I got wit my old N95 works beautifully and instantly. had fun with it the other day playing angry birds on my Galaxy S on my TV so much fun
i have a galaxy s and i tried a different 3.5 jack and 3 rca cable , and a jack and scart but they do not work
does it HAVE to be the nokia cable, and if so why???
thanks in advance for any ansvers
Hey Guys
remember to turn “TV out” off when you want to listen to audio via head phones or a stereo otherwise you will “hear” the TV signal as well.
Si
Hey guys just purchased a CA-75U off ebay just wondering is it usual to hear background humming coming through the speakers vision is fine but is just bit of gentle background noise kinda annoying but can probably live with it.
Not too sure about that Rodger, could be to do with the quality of the cable/connection
The Nokia N900 A/V cable works well; the Nokia N95 A/V cable also does the trick.
I’ve connected the Samsung Galaxy S to a (Samsung SP-H03 Pico) projector and… voila, I got some home cinema, with audio connected to the home theater system.
Wharf about galaxy ace? Does that work with it too?
We do not stock the Ace to test this, we are not aware that it does though.
I wonder how the cable for the Nokia N95, 6720, etc.., can work with the Samsung GalaxyS to output Video….

Video and Ground are swapped. Same problem as with MIC-GROUND swap for headset.
also the very old samsung jet does the exact same thing from a 3.5 headphone jack
How do i find the tv out” on the galaxy s2 as i cannot find it???
Thanks
the TV Out on the Galaxy S 2 is via an MHL adaptor, bot the 3.5mm jack. The MHL adaptor is connected via the MicroUSB port.
