It is a little outside our normal blog post criteria, but it was an interesting bit of news that we came across that we thought we would share.
According to V3.co.uk reports that Akamai, have carried out a study on the global broadband speeds and the UK ranked 26th – lagging well behind many other countries.
The average UK connection speed is just 3.4Mbps.
South Korea took the top spot in the international ranking, with an average speed of 14.5Mbps.
Whilst the UK lagged behind the likes of the US, Netherlands and Ireland, we did score better than Spain, France and Italy.
On a more positive note, Broadband.co.uk has rated Virgin Media as the best provider for fast internet connectivity.
Their study conflicted somewhat with the Akamai report with the UK having an average connection speed of 4.478Mbps. Never-the-less Virgin Media is said to have an average connection speed of 7.426Mbps. AOL took the top spot for slowest connection speeds at just 2Mbps.
