Dell Mini 5 Android Tablet

Saturday, January 30, 2010

image Engadget have posted image and video of the new Dell Mini 5 Android Tablet.

Originally via TechCrunch, the guys managed to capture a couple of moments, with the man behind it all, Mr Michael Dell.

He quickly shows off this sweet little tablet.  Referred to as the Mini 5, the new device is set to be available very soon.

Not much was said about the device, other than that it runs the Google Android operating system, has 3G wireless connectivity.

We are going to guess that it is a 5” display?!

Will they sell it direct? Will it come to Europe?  What other features? These questions are still to be answered.

Short of USB ports for charging?

Friday, January 29, 2010

Something a bit different for the weekend.

We came across this interesting news item from Engadget.

image

This is an 80, yes EIGHTY, port USB hub that you can use to charge all of your USB devices from a single location.

At $165 it is not that cheap, but if you need something like this then I guess you would pay that money.

This is for charging only and does not transmit data, so don’t go thinking that this will solve all our USB hub problems, but it comes close.

image

We all have a lot of USB powered devices but do any of you own enough to fill all 80 ports?

Friday, January 29, 2010

image

The Motorola Shadow is official(ish). The news comes via Tracy and Matt’s Blog  who cite comments made by Mobile Choice -

Motorola’s CEO Sanjay Jha has taken the bull by the horns and come out to confirm that they are working on a Google phone after all. He said that Motorola will be releasing the new design this year.

Further, the similarities continue because the Motorola-derived Nexus phone, "will be sold directly to consumers", just like Google’s Nexus One. Frustratingly, Jha failed to give us any further details about the new design, when the phone will be officially announced or even if the Shadow is, in fact, the designated handset, according to The Street website.

The potential Nexus Two has a good specification set and if it all the information proves to be true, then it could be a great second unit to be released by Google as it will be an android device with a keyboard, that could better fit the mobile professional.

Some of the information is a bit patchy at the moment but we will bring you more as and when we can.

Innovation and Competitive Advantage in the Smartphone Industry

Thursday, January 28, 2010

BU_LogoWe hear the word innovation all the time, it has become a figure of speech now, but it is not surprising with the likes of the new iPad!

Based in Bournemouth, we work closely with the University and employ the services of some of the brightest students to bring you the latest smartphones and technology news.

In the final year of their course one student has as a result of their work at Clove, decided to investigate innovation and competitive advantage in the Smartphone industry, in fact their dissertation title is as follows:

"Does innovation provide competitive advantage to manufacturers of smartphones, with particular focus on HTC."HTC_LogoAs part of the investigation, there is the need to collect primary data, and we hoped that as smartphone and technology fans you could assist in providing some of that data.

There is a short survey that will take no longer than 5 minutes to complete and would really help in providing quality feedback to produce the final paper.

If you are willing to participate, just click HERE, or follow the link below:

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/smartphoneinnovation

All being well, in a few months time we will be able to provide a full copy of the report and you will be able to read for yourself whether innovation actually brings competitive advantage to the manufacturers of smartphones!

Please Note:  This study is not financed by nor is it to be used for professional purposes by Clove Technology or HTC.

Apple Slate/Tablet

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

image

It seems the whole tech world is talking about what is going to be announced from Apple today (6PM GMT).

We know it is going to be a tablet of some form and leaked images, if correct are very impressive.

However today it has transpired that Jason Calcanis, the founder of Weblogs, Inc, TechCrunch50, reporter for Engadget, etc  has had one for the last 10 days.

He is a beta tester for Apple and has leaked some comments via twitter.  Here they are:

  • Yes, apple tablet is oled + back has solar pad for recharging, but it really doesn’t work quickly. More a gimmic. Verizon+att, wifi yes!
  • Apple Tablet has thumbpads on each side for mouse guestures, reads fingerprint for security. Up to 5 profiles by finerprint for family.
  • Yes, there are 2 cameras: one in front and one in back (or it may be one with some double lens) so you record yourself and in front of u.
  • I can tell u the battery life is great in ebook reading mode but not great when on wifi or playing games. 2-3hrs
  • The apple tablet is running an iphone os flavor with ability to have multiple apps running at same time (ie pandora, browser
  • Ok, I will take two questions about the new apple tablet which I have right here. Go ahead… My nda is basically over. :)
  • The price will be 599, 699 and 799 depending on size and memory in apple tablet. Also, wireless keyboard + monitor connection for tv
  • Also, the apple tablet is really amazing for newspapers. Video conferencing is super stable, but nothing new.
  • The best part of the apple tablet as beta user has been the built in HDTV tuner and pvr, and the chess game.
  • Note to press: No, not going to break my NDA w/ Apple/steve so u can get jump on announcement. It is the most *amazing* device ever
  • Pretty impressive!

To add to the drama, it has been reported by What Mobile that the units could even be on sale as early as tomorrow in the UK.
