A DigiTimes report has stated that Acer are during 2010 going to produce between 8 and 10 smartphones, of which more will be running Android OS.
The handsets are due to be manufactured by a couple of manufacturers who Acer will subcontract the work too but Acer will actually develop the mid-high end smartphones that are due to use snapdragon processors them themselves.
It is also suggested that Acer are considering development of smartphones based on Qualcomm’s Brew Mobile Platform in an attempt to compete with HTC and offer telecom carriers a cost effective solution.
To push things forward 30 members of the Mitac International team have been hired which now results in an R&D team of over 400 people who are working to design and develop new handsets as well as push forward Google Android.
