HTC HD2 Capacitive Stylus and Extended Battery

Wednesday, November 25, 2009

We have been receiving lots of queries over whether HTC will be bringing out a stylus and extended battery for the HTC HD2.

Up until now we had no information on this, and had not expected them to release a stylus, because of the size of the screen and the fact that it is capacitive.

HTC_HD2_Front_Back_Colour

We have however received information to suggest at they will indeed be bringing both out in the near future.

No information is available on pricing or exact specification as yet, nor do we know at this time as to when they will be available, more than likely it wont be until January/February 2010.

The battery will come with a replacement back cover and it is expected to have a kickstand to enable you to have the battery stood in portrait or landscape mode when using the extended battery with the HTC HD2.  Little is known about the stylus, but it is fair to assume it will be based on the patents.

However in expectation of their release we are taking pre-orders for both.

You can order the HTC HD2 Capacitive Stylus

and the HTC HD2 battery at Clove Technology.

We will bring you more information as we have.

HTC HD2 v’s Apple iPhone

Wednesday, November 25, 2009
Shaun at PDA247 has put together a nice review of the HTC HD2, against the iPhone.
It make for very interesting reading Here are a few snippets from the review:
SCREEN
HD2 9/10  iPhone 3GS 8/10
The HD2 wins here purely because of size. There is little doubt that both screens are excellent and work well in all conditions, but after a few days with the HD2 the iPhone screen felt a bit small. That is of course crazy because it isn’t and I still have reservations about a screen as big as the HD2s, but overall it just wins.
GENERAL PERFORMANCE
HD2 9/10  iPhone 3GS 9/10
The HD2 is very fast for a Windows Mobile device, but there will be times when the occasional slowdown occurs. However, these slowdowns are few and far between and short lived, and the HTC HD2 can multi-task exceptionally well. The fast processor and large internal RAM mean that you can have multiple apps running at the same time without issue. It is tempting to proclaim the HD2 the winner in this area, but the 3GS is very, very quick and so I have to rate them equal.
CAMERA
HD2 8/10  iPhone 3GS 8/10
If you consider a smartphone camera to be necessary for grabbling quick clips and videos then both of these cameras will serve you well. The iPhone camera is very easy to use, but has no flash and the HTC HD2 camera is a bit fiddly, but does produce better quality photos. It is a case of each having some omissions and so they end up equal.

Unconfirmed – HTC HD2 upgradable to Windows Mobile/Phone 7

Tuesday, November 24, 2009

We reported earlier that there has been talk of Windows Phone 7 being announced early next year.

There is also reports that the HTC HD2 will be amongst those devices that will be able to run the new software.

This report comes via http://www. msmobile.com who do not reveal the source for this.

We can not substantiate these claims nor do we recommend that you take this as set in stone.  However it could be quite interesting if it is the case – all HTC HD2 owners would be in a great position seeing as Mobile 7 is set to be one of the biggest updates to the OS to date.

We will of course bring more information as we have it.

T-Mobile and Orange confirm UK joint venture

Tuesday, November 24, 2009

Deutsche Telekom and France Telecom mother companies to UK networks T-mobile and Orange have finally confirmed that their UK businesses are to merge to create a new UK market leader, providing better competition amongst the market and challenging the two big rivals Vodaphone and O2.

Orange_and_T_Mobiles_Massive_Merger_Confirmed_xlarge

When completed, a deal between the two providers would see a firm with sales of £8.2bn. It would be the UK’s largest provider, overtaking O2, with about 37% of the mobile market and 28.4m customer subscriptions.

Orange CEO Tom Alexander: The move means ‘better value and better coverage’

Orange and T-Mobile said their deal would "bring substantial benefits to UK customers", and promised expanded network coverage, better network quality and improved customer services.

However, it is likely that competition authorities in the UK and EU will probe the deal.

The announcement takes Deutsche Telekom a step towards solving its problems in the UK, where fourth-placed T-Mobile UK has long suffered poor profitability as it has been squeezed by larger rivals Orange, Vodafone UK and O2.

Only time will tell as to whether this move will provide customers with a network that really does offer better coverage and network quality, but lets hope they do.
