As part of the whole Windows Phone launch, Microsoft have now officially taken their My Phone service out of BETA. Missed My Phone and not sure what we are talking about? Take a look at our comprehensive guide HERE.
So what does it mean now that My Phone is out of BETA? Well, it is here to stay.
The online, wireless backup/synching service has many benefits to a user:
Your phone can contain a wide spectrum of private data, from your family’s addresses and telephone numbers to personal photos and financial information. The thought of losing that information is scary. While My Phone won’t keep a thief away or stop you from misplacing your mobile device, it will certainly work wonders getting it back into your hands safely. In addition to the complete backup of all contacts, calendar appointments, tasks and text messages, now available free to all customers through the My Phone web portal is the ability to map the location of your mobile device by its last sync or photo post.
Also available (in certain markets) is the new Premium Features Package. The Premium Package includes the ability to Ring your phone when it’s set for vibrate or silent, Map your phone’s current location, remotely Lock your phone and post an ‘if found’ message on its screen, and even Erase your phone completely. So even if your mobile device isn’t physically in your hands, you never lose control of it or the information it holds.
Microsoft are in fact, as part of the Windows Phone launch, are offering a free trial access to the Premium Package until 30/11/2009. After the trial period, all new and existing users will additionally get one (1) free use. After the trial period and first free use, activating the Premium Package will require a one-time fee of £4.99 for access over a 7-day period that includes (3) Rings, (3) Maps, (1) Lock and (1) Erase.
During the My Phone beta phase, if you used the service, you were able to view and download photos from the My Phone web portal. Now, with My Phone you can not only view photos, but post them directly to their favourite social networking sites like Windows Live, Facebook, Myspace and Flickr from either the My Phone web portal or straight from their mobile device.
All the new features are available immediately. If you own a Windows 6.1 device, you will have to download the application to your device. If your one of the lucky ones already with a 6.5 device, the application is installed already and your ready to go.
